ISC not 8.3?

I found a bus for sale 1T7HR4B23W1159907 that said Cummins ISC six cylinder turbo diesel engine. Sure enough the picture was six separate cylinders. I'm confused because I thought the ISC was the 24 valve with indentions on both sides if its mechanical and flat on one side if its electronic. What am I supposed to make of this?

Can you post the picture for us?

If the valve cover looks like six separate boxes, that's a mechanical 5.9L.

The only engine "ISC" refers to is the electronic 8.3L, but this definitely wouldn't be the first time we've seen a seller that didn't know what they were talking about.

Thomas, if this's the auction you're looking at... https://www.purplewave.com/auction/170215/item/DB2284

...then that's definitely not an ISC, that's a mechanical 5.9, also known as a 6BT.

And it has an Allison AT545 in it.

Yet the VIN decoder even said ISC. Oh well the search continues. Thanks

You are doing it right- Most places do not know what they are selling- at all. Ads are written by administrators, not Fleet guys.Keep posting pics here for id.

My bus was listed at 25' and is actually 40', to give an idea.

It'll happen, when you find 'the one', grab ahold with both hands.

I seriously doubt any 8.3L was ever hooked to an AT545 transmission.

Some low HP DT466 engines were hooked to AT545's but the 8.3 or 6CT engine had too much HP and torque, even in derated versions, to hook to an AT545.

There's a nice 8.3 Thomas BB listed in Sacramento C/L. Don't know why, but seller said the maint. records didn't come with it. Way too big for my purposes, but may be what you're looking for.

My Thomas bus has s ISB 5.9 but when the VIN is searched it shows that it has a ISC.

Personally I don't trust any sales people; I look for myself.

Well I'm in no rush anymore. Whenever it comes around I'm wanting a mechanical 8.3 with a wheelchair lift in the middle.
I still have my 24 footer festival bus.
