Looking at my first bus

I'm trying to kick off my skoolie. I found this 4 hours North of me. (I'm located near Fresno, CA.)

The owner is saying he wants $7,000 firm. New MT643 from 2013 that the school district installed, T444e with 84k miles. No rust. (Perks of living in the desert.)

I'm going to check it out tomorrow. What say skoolie.net?

He sent me vids too

I can not get your vids to play. From the thumbs that come up it looks like an international RE bus. That trans is a lock up style that is pretty beefy. There are plenty of opinions on the 444e
Most think it's a great pickup truck motor or short bus motor, but not awesome in a full sized bus.

Do the links work now?

Yeah, I wonder if that motor is going to be too small for serious road trips. I don't plan on doing any cross country trips anytime soon, just weekend trips throughout California every few weeks. Possibly Burning Man next year. I was wondering if it'd be realistic to just squeeze as many miles as possible out of it and replace with a DT466 some day? I don't know if a swap like that would be worth the cost or effort or even feasible in the first place.

I don't think it would be cost effective to swap a 444 for a 466. The motor cost alone would be the purchase price of a bus with a 466 already in it.

Roger, I had a feeling that wouldn't be a realistic thing to do.

It has a good transmission, so don't let the motor be a deal breaker unless you need a motor that will push you up the Rockies at 65mph.

In saying that, I would be looking for at couple of thousand off that price.

I got the video to work, it has a retarder. Nice storage. Looks to be in good shape. It is more than I would pay for it, with that motor, but I think you can probably deal a bit.
