MT654CR Allison transmissions (not mine)

Gov liquidation has about 8 of these listed in Columbus Ohio. In case anybody was looking to swap/upgrade. I think these are similar to the MT643 but with a lower 1st gear. It also has a compression retarder if you're looking for that feature.

Here's the link to one of them Transmission w/Container, P/N 5704512, appears unused in Mfg container, end item: 5-Ton truck - Government Liquidation

edit: there's a whole lot more then 8 of them there.

I saw one of those. Unlike a MD3060, first gear is by itself if I am not mistaken. You need to stop to put it into first and stop to take it out of first. You also need to fill out an End User Certificate. If I was close, I'd pick one up.

You're correct. I think it is essentially a 643 but with the ultra low 1st gear. You don't normally use it unless you're pulling a stump. I also think the converter locks up after 2nd gear vs 3rd gear in the mt643. I might be wrong though.

I have no use for one, but if one goes for a couple hundred I think I'd be stupid not to buy it. I've never filled out an end user certificiate. I assume you had to do that for when you bought your at1545?. How hard/complicated was it?

Apparently the CR means 'close ratio' which means the gears are closer together. Good for trash trucks, not so good for highway driving. My research is telling me these don't have retarders, but I might be mistaken.

did some looking, main difference is that it is a 5 speed and first gear is lower, but 5th is still 1 to 1 like the 643

and you will go really slow in reverse, MT643 is like 5 to 1 in reverse
it is also about 5 inches longer than an MT643

nput power: 300 hp max Input torque: 950 lb/ft max
Input speed: 1900-3000 rpm

Transmission gear ratios:
1st: 4.17:1
2nd: 2.21:1
3rd: 1.66:1
4th: 1.27:1
5th: 1.0:1
Reverse: 10.76:1

Torque converter ratios:
TC430: 3.59:1 (crawl ratio: 14.97:1)
TC495: 2.21:1 (crawl ratio: 9.22:1)
TC496: 1.83:1 (crawl ratio: 7.63:1)
TC497: 2.7:1 (crawl ratio: 11.26:1)

Crawl ratio: first gear ratio x torque converter ratio

and since groveport is only a couple of hours away for me, I might buy one, it would be a nice spare

That's interesting. I thought first was something like 8 to 1. I guess not.

There is one like that, but it has different letters, DR I think, do not remember and could not refind the link that showed the different models.

I am just going to leave the at545 in the 2000 short bus alone since it seems to work great with the te444, still have the other bus for sale and an MT643 that I bought for the other bus
