Here is a way to do a Vehicle VIN Search so you can find out more information on a bus:

https://www.gates.com/search-by-vin

If you copy and paste the VIN: 1T7ht4b27X1167270

This is another bus I've been looking at. It's in NC right now, originally from Knoxville. Seems like a nice bus, but has no electrical or plumbing yet.

I saw that bus listed when i started looking for a skoolie... about 6 months ago at least... i bet you could get them down on that price ... location... it prolly isnt insulated well for that area... but the stove will push heat ...

Good luck with your decision

Thank you so much for noticing that! The owner told me that it was a 5.9L but I did not double check. I know much less about this engine!

Sounds like maybe the owner doesnt know either??

Maybe have him send you a picture of the engine, that would be a tell-all

Thank you so much! Good to know for the future! I guess the owner was mistaken, though, because it turns out it’s a Cat 3126. What’s the deal with that engine? Not very familiar...

They're good but who wants to have to buy Cat parts/service when the time comes?

Agree. Even not knowing what you are doing have a better turn out.

Are CAT parts expensive/hard to find? Maybe I'll have to keep on looking...

Only available from Cat and they're colored gold for a reason.

Haha got it! Thanks for the heads up. That's too bad. I might have to move on from this bus, I guess. Would you?

I've been looking at this other bus, too. Going to call the owner later today...definitely not the right layout for me, but could be something I could change to make work. What do you think? Thanks!!

With the talk about how expensive it is to replace caterpillar parts does the Cat motor require parts more often than any other bus out there. Is it so bad that you would shy away from owning own on a "what if" that may never happen. If I heard stories of how often they broke down and how ungodly expensive they were to fix then I would walk. But cost of repair is not a defining reason for bagging the motor.
