EastCoastCB - That cube van in the top of your tiny house pics, it motivated me to buy a similar body style. A 99 Express 3500 with 8x12 low-pro cube. In the end, I'm using it as my parts/lumber runner while building the bus, but the thought is still there to do a stealth conversion.

I have too much junk...

Cool, thats awesome! That's what I've been lookin for... A good deal on a van.
I'd love a diesel van. But for weekend stealth camping, I'm thinking an Astro with the 4.3 may be a nice choice.

I have had two Astro vans with the 4.3 v6. Great vans, and decent 20 miles to the gallon with cargo on a 3000 mile trip.

As for electricity, I could never run a generator all day. It would drive me crazy, and I would not relax the entire time it was running.

I won't even run them on the job sites all day. If not being used, generator gets shut down.

This is from the night I bought it. The CL ad said it didn't run, but the motor and trans had been rebuilt. $1600

I've come to expect the worst from CL, but couldn't resist at that price.

Played with it till it almost ran, asked to see the rebuild paperwork (skeptically, I might add). All paperwork was in order. Motor has about 50k and trans is about 20k miles since rebuild. I got it for less than the cost of the transmission overhaul, twisted the distributor, and drove it home.

Since then, I've installed new brakes, bearings, a steering box, and a new distributor. For a heavier vehicle with a small block, she gets right down the road and she's nowhere near as sloppy as a comparably-sized class C motor home.
