And that thing has 255/80/22.5s on it. Those're a touch under 38 inches tall. That means you're turning 2600 rpm at 45 mph.

That's a loooong drive home.

Would love to know what people think about this bus at this price.
1985 FORD B600
cylinders: 8 cylinders
drive: fwd
fuel: gas
transmission: automatic

CLASSIC BEAUTIFUL ALL ALUMINUM SCHOOL BUS NO RUST NO LEAKS RUNS GREAT.
WOLFINGTON BUS BODY'S WERE VERY EXPENSIVE AND VERY HIGH END.
THIS BUS CURRENTLY HAS THE SEATS REMOVED AND IS USED FOR CHART STORAGE.
BUS RUNS BEAUTIFULLY WITH A FORD 429 HEAVY DUTY GAS ENGINE.

Without knowing mileage that is a concern. Is anyone familiar with this gas engine? Im wondering what sort of MPG is possible with a lighter aluminum frame.
I don't know quite where to start on the info on this bus.

First off, that is not a Wolfington body. That is a Wayne/Wayne Wheeled Vehicles bus body. It is NOT aluminum. In fact, I doubt there is any aluminum anywhere in this bus unless there is some Reynolds wrap in the bus.

Wolfington did make higher end stuff. But Wayne was not. Wayne was a the favorite of contractors because it was cheap. It was built to a price point and as a consequence they were built as cheaply as possible while still meeting the minimum safety spe'c.

Next off, I would seriously doubt that has the 429 V-8 under the hood. It is possible but not probable. Most of the Ford chassis buses I have seen had the 371 or 391 V-8. I have never seen a Ford conventional school bus chassis with a 429 under the hood.

Next off, while it may have "regular breaks that anyone can drive" the parts and pieces to fix them can be a bit of a challenge to find.

Even at such a low price I don't know that I would want bring it home.

Assuming you arent deceiving a skoolie noob to poach the skoolie bargain of a lifetime I think youve identified enough reasons for me to rule it out. Other than the fact that he hasnt returned my call with the VIN he promised it seems that he is the one who was attempting trick me!

Thank you for taking a look.

I've turned into a longtime busless lurker, not by choice. Have been reading the forum for about six months. At first I wanted a BIG bus and now have decided to look for a 7 window shorty. So, am headed to the Dallas school auction tomorrow so I can see all the buses side-by-side. Hope I'm able to pick one out and get it at a decent price. Does anyone know what I'm about to encounter at this auction? 190 buses for sale. I should find somethin? Any advice? Any shorties that I must avoid? Any other Skoolie Members plan to be there?? Thanks in advance! Looking forward to that 350 mile drive home in the bus - haha.

I was planning on being there but looks like my work schedule is going to prevent it. If that changes I will send you a PM

Robin, thanks. I was looking for a bit more ground clearance, I can't resist the road less travelled.

Nah, I don't think Cowlitz would do that. I've never heard of him buying a bus, at least in the few years I've been here. I'd be interested to hear if he owns one and if it's a conversion. So far as I can tell, he's just a guy who spent his career in the industry and enjoys sharing his knowledge.

I honestly haven't seen anyone try to pull a fast one on here. As a matter of fact I have witnessed people pull out of auctions because someone here was bidding. There are plenty of busses out there, and each of us has the ideal bus in mind.
I for one always look forward to Cowlitzcoach's posts. I learn something every time.

I have been in the industry over 40-years. I even owned and operated a bus company for almost 10 years.

As I was shutting down my business my wife warned me that if I purchased another bus I would be sleeping in it.

I did, and I did!

I understand my limitations. Among my limitations is I have a very poor eye for detail. I know what I want but have a very difficult time in following through. I realized shortly after my daughter was born that she would be graduating from college or med school before my conversion was "completed". As a consequence I sold my last Crown and used the funds realized to purchase our first travel trailer and tow vehicle.

We still have the last bus I purchased and to be honest, it is more of a storage shed than anything else. I purchased it in MI in order to move treasures from MI to WA state after my M-I-L passed away. Which obviously required me sleeping in it across the country. Now nine years later it is parked behind my shop and it still has some of those treasures stored inside.

If I voice an opinion on a bus my opinion is based on my experience and what I would or would not want in a bus. I recognize that there is no one single bus that will work for everyone. I recognize that others have had vastly different experiences and outcomes with specific power packages. I just hope that my opinion can add light and reason to discussions that has had the OP in the dark and clueless.

Having said all that, I have my preferences and biases about what might or might not work well for someone. I just hope that anything I might say will help and not hinder someone in their decision making process.

Good luck and happy trails to you all!

Here's one of the rare 2005 International conventionals with a Bluebird body. Pretty sure this was the last year Bluebird sold a conventional from another manufacturer
