This price has dropped over the last two months - I was seriously looking into this one - (only saw ad - never say bus) - but liked that it was pretty ready to go.

How long do you think it'd take to get used to shifting like that?

I'd imagine the learning curve gets pretty steep after you try to shift from first to reverse a couple times.
All of the Gillig RE buses shifted backwards like that.

Learning to shift them in that pattern isn't that difficult.

Remembering you are not driving a Gillig RE with backward shift pattern on the way home in your pickup and try to shift from 3rd to 2nd does tend to wake you up!

Ignorant question- would this work with older, mechanical engines? I see wires...
If so I'll buy it. Its not too far from me.

Listening to recent conversations I thought some of you back there might be interested in a used RTO.

There is a 40' RE bus at Mason Dixon Auction just above Hagerstown MD. If interested, someone may want to call. I think it was an International, but traffic was heavy so I didn't get a real good look.

yes.. those wires are for neutral safety and reverse lights.

you would just have to get clutch linkages / mechanisms, correct flywheel and clutch stuff..

would have to look it up to see what Bell is on it.. if your shortie wit ha 444E is like mine then you have the capability of handling an SAE2 or SAE3 bell.. mine has the flywheel housing with an SAE2 and then a 2 to 3 adapter for the AT545.. and a spacer for the hub. so if you got a #2 transmission you would remove the adapter and by clutch pieces for a #2 transmission.

No thanks. I've bid on those for OVER a year now. They keep the reserve too high and simply keep relisting them. After seeing more pics, they're a little crusty looking, too. Like they've been sitting for a long time, because they have. They're geared a bit low, and I don't think the spicer 5 has OD. These buses TOP OUT at 55 mph, making for a LONG ride home and anywhere else till they're regeared. Would make a nice daily driver for someone in the mountains though.

I'd be using this for a custom build. I'd likely set it aside in the garage for a long while. But would be SWEET to have on hand. If i swapped it into the shorty it would be behind a bigger engine, probably a cat 3406 or a cummins big cam.
I'll probably throw a bid at it toward the end, thanks! So as long as the price stays reasonable, I'm calling DIBS!

For the mechanically inclined;

For sale 1992 international bus motor home - $3000 (Keizer , Oregon)

https://salem.craigslist.org/rvs/6125849389.html

My apologies if you've seen this listing already. This does need a head gasket. It does not appear to have been insulated and still has puke mats, but it does have a nice interior with bathroom and a decent paint job.

Who wanted a shorty? It's a little high price IMO considering the miles.

4500 bux and no air-conditioning???
332k for a T-444E, she is likely a bit tired.. my guess is they just started it up for the pic.. 800 RPM about 45 PSI oil dead cold is a bit low unless it was really hot that day.. its not terrible, just a bit low for a cold start. looks like a decent bus though.

There's one here in Billings, MT - a conventional Cornbinder. I'll try to get pix, but it's currently a church bus. Couldn't get pix today because they're holding a yard sale in the parking lot.
