They buy the bus and have ZERO money to maintain it.

And you could hook up the PTO to something.

This is one of those heating/cooling units that might be good for a coach in the basement.
2008 MFG unknown, Horizontal air conditioner, part No AH-54, Sn 1726, cooling 54000 BTU/HR. Heating 32400. 208/230 V, 3 phase, 50/60 Hz. All refrigerants have been removed. GL will provide tailgate loading.

the 3 phase part is the killer, you would need a big generator and a 3 phase converter to run it, or a surplus 3 phase generator, which would be rather large

3-phase
No problem. Plug in one of those 3-phase military generators.
They're sure getting fancy now. All we got was kerosene stoves in -40 weather.

thats not a mobile rated A/C.. thats a 5 ton package unit.. good luck finding a bus big enough to put that under ... havi g a 3 phase genny would be nice.. make it easier to run those VFD compressors without inverters

Most of the military genys have 3-phase, but like you say it's a matter of where to put them. Since I don't have a coach or even a single basement box, I'd likely need a trailer and ducting going to the bus.
I've got to figure those units are fairly durable since they're meant to be hauled around in trucks by some very young military men.

im sure they are durable but BTU / lb per Size is probably much Less efficient than putting in a small engine and a coach A/C if you want 55,000 BTU..

Considering these military units are basically a box of parts, do they have any value toward being reconfigured into a less cubical setup?
Yeah, I have a tendency to try reinventing the wheel sometimes.
Resellers put those up for $400 each.
I'm thinking hunting in the eastern Oregon dessert, I get an antilope and I need to hang it to let it cool. I could just crank up the AC and watch the windows frost over.

55k btu will cool a short bus 'OK' going down the road.. yours probably nicely since its uber-insulated with spray foam.
its not uncommon though in a full size school bus to have 120K+ BTU of Air-conditioning!. most regular cars have 9-12k BTU of A/C

They do have larger units, some mounted on their own trailers.
I was going to get one of those mini-splits, but as you say they don't have the juice while traveling. Even two mini-splits might not be enough cooling for me to drive through Texas in the summertime. Actually the dry heat feels good in limited doses. High heat and humidity ain't my thing.

Someone here on the forum bought a bus several months ago with that drivetrain combo. I can't remember who, though.
