I've been watching those busses. Sadly the reserve seems to be in the 10k range. I'll never understand why people do that stupid reserve thing... Just start the bidding at your bottom line, and be done with it. Instead it gets people's hopes up that it might be in their price range. All those busses from OR seem to have a high reserve. I checked one that ended last night, bidding was at 8K and reserve not met.

im not an auction expert.. but ive never understood reserve auctions either, I guess they give the seller choice really to sell or relist... in a way it seems to be a scam.. because the seller does have the choice to sell the Lot at less than reserve if they choose..
so in my eyes a reserve is a scam.. you could set the reserve on the busses at 30k. and then keep relisting them to gain interest and publication of the item. and once you hit a plateau sell it sub-reserve... basically a try-it-before-you-sell-it type of thing...
great for the seller - yucky for prospective buyers.

I like to try and figure out the reserve and bid just below it.
I've not gotten lucky yet, but often if you're the high bidder you can be contacted and offered the item at the high bid.
But I don't think like most people do about these auctions.
I bid EARLY. I like to make anyone who wants it have to pay more than its worth to me. Waiting till the end seems to make for bidding wars.
Lots of low bids for sure, but I get GREAT deals doing it this way.

I agree on bidding early.. since all of these are proxy bid auctions anyway, stuff your max amount in early.. if someone wants it they are going to outbid you anyway.. or have placed a much higher proxi-bid. then I know to just stop watching said auction

Exactly! And with the auto extensions for last-minute bidders it sorta changes things. Its not Ebay!

Public Surplus had 4 Thomas shorties end at auction today from Mesa ISD with 7.3 diesel between 1995 and 1998. Anyone see what they went for? I couldn't get online to bid, I probably don't need a second bus, but for some reason I can't stop looking for one...

They all went between 4000-4800, there was some bid warring going on at the end - I nabbed the 1995 for my first ever conversion! I was hoping for one of the 1998 ones but with 140k miles I'm perfectly happy with the 1995 model. I've seen shorties go for less but after losing out on a number of auctions and my first trip deadline approaching, I'm just happy I found a running 6-window under 5k. Now in the process of figuring out how to get it insured so I can drive it back to California in the next week....

Congratulations! Those were great looking little rigs, with a legendary engine, think you did alright with 4k, that is about where I was going to stop. I paid up for my first too, but when you know you know. I love the lines of the front end on them. I had plans of riding my harley out there and loading in the back for the return voyage.
Good luck and keep us posted on progress. I'm still in floor patching phase, but let me know if I could advise.

How much would a freshly painted, freshly sealed up, GREAT running 6 window with air ride, new tires, ALL fresh fluids and filters, high headroom, cruise control, and RV title be worth??

Well- according to their website a crappy 6.0 shorty with zero work done to it at all is worth 15 grand. They only have bottom rung stuff for BEYOND top dollar.
SO in reality- whats a bus like I mentioned worth??

I have no idea in reality. But I'm sure you could turn a nice tidy profit at about 7 or 8 Grand

It's worth what someone will pay, no easy answer. Put it on eBay with solid marketing and I bet you would be surprised at what someone determined the worth to be. I trade money for time and to spare myself inconvenience all the time, it's not my nature and it pains me, but my schedule doesn't allow much.
Much like the buyer that popped at 4k, sounded like he had a deadline and grew tired of searching, and he was not alone if three other similar items sold for 4 to 5k.

Not saying you're wrong, I just consider it an opportunity cost since I've been looking for 8 months and I ran out of time for my deadline, I know they come around cheaper but I haven't been able to find anything within my specifications for under 5k unless it needed a ton of work that I wasn't capable of. Just trying to be excited for my first bus...

Sorry this thread is where we tend to rag on prices and models of buses that are for sale.
Enjoy the Vista.
