Thanks for your two cents. I'm in CA and there seems to be limited selection in my area right now. I want to avoid traveling far for a pick up.

You can tell it is a high roof model because it has the 12" windows and not the 9" windows. The clue is the top line of the windows is above the top of the driver's side window and the top of the service door.
Once AmTrans became IC the IC buses got a lot of options as standard because it was just easier to build all of the buses one way instead of having choices. As a consequence starting in about 2001 all of the IC RE buses got the high roof and starting about 2004 all of the IC CE buses got the high roof standard.
As far as the 2007 Thomas, I would stay away from a C2 even if it was the only bus for sale anywhere. All of the C2's have electrical gremlins due in large part to the fact all of them have been multiplexed. The older ones are worse than the newer ones. In addition, a 2007 engine will be smogged which has some additional problems that make running a bus difficult.

A 2007 Saf T Liner C2 bus, 48 passenger. It more costly, however it seems like a great deal and better for road tripping vs. the Genesis? Thoughts/experience with the C2 buses? Also, my husband wants a shorter bus than 30 ft. so that is strike one for the Genesis :P
|
a 2007? I'd pass! Not a better deal at all. The emissions garbage on that engine will cost thousands to maintain.

The service history of this bus will not come with it. You can however ask them to email you a copy to look at. They have always done that for me in the past.
Copied from the site:
what size engine is it. does the lift work properly? do you have service records for the bus?
Answer
The engine is an International DT466.
Service records can be viewed however not included with the bus.

I had a bus with the midship chair lift. I got tired of climbing over motorcycles in the middle of the bus to get to the rear door. The only thing worse would be the front mounted chair lift.

You can also tell it's a high ceiling because that was mandated from 2006.

The bus in question is a 95, IIRC.
But thanks for confirming the year of the headroom change. Guess the extra headroom is nice when you're broke down on the side of the road due to complex emissions garbage and an engine made of unobtanium.

So that wouldn't be nice.
The good news is that Thomas shipped an awful lot of pre-emissions Saf-T-Liners with 77" headroom.
I only have one of them, so there are plenty left for everyone else
ps ... There is an easy "tell". The roof has a distinct rise right behind the driving position. It's very easy to see.

One of those, between 35 and 39 feet long, with a rear engine and underbelly storage is exactly what I'm looking for.
Good to know to look for the roof bump. That will help. Thanks!

This 95 is high headroom. Easy to spot with the tall windows. Short wheelbase AmTran Genesis.

As someone who has worked hard to keep a church transportation ministry operating I can tell you that there are a lot of challenges involved. High on the list is finding and keeping qualified CDL drivers available to drive the bus.
I would suggest that less than 10K miles in ten years means they probably didn't need to purchase a $90K bus to meet their needs. I suggest it probably cost $90K because that A/C system is about a $10K option on top of a bus that is already highly spe'c'ed.
I would also suggest that the fact it is a 2007 model bus means it would require the church to install an Electronic Logging Device under certain conditions. All of our church buses are pre-2000 and all mechanical so they are exempt from the ELD mandate.
And I would also agree that as an early emissions model the bus is probably a garage queen. And now that it is out of warranty it is probably a sucking hole for cash.
As I have worked with churches who have wanted to start a transportation ministry I have discussed with them the actual costs of owning vs. renting/leasing vs. chartering buses. One of the number one things I try to disabuse them of is the idea that their church can afford to own a motorcoach. Unless they anticipate traveling more than 10K miles per month no church can afford to own a motorcoach.
And unless they are really affluent purchasing a brand new bus is probably not being a good steward. In this case that is patently clear.
Our church doesn't rack up a lot of miles per year per bus but each bus goes a lot more than 1K miles per year.

30 ft Genesis
So is anybody here bidding on this short Genesis that was posted earlier? There is only a couple of hours left on it. If nobody from here is bidding then I will probably put in a bid myself. Would not mind having matching long and short Genesis busses in my yard.

If I had any way to get it home I'd buy it.
Next week some newb will come to this forum saying they've been searching for THIS bus for a year and can't find one...
Was bought by "moki"... A former forum member who flips clean western buses.
