I am extremely biased. I have driven various configurations and have become an RE enthusiast.

The 8.3 is a great engine but in an FE access for service could be a pain. RE has much better access.

Then there is the noise and heat. Not 8.3 specific. All FE's have this issue.

The downside to the RE is a little less usable interior space and cooling. RE's are more likely to have cooling problems if the cooling system is not in top condition.

As someone that has driven FE Bluebirds for a job the last 5 years I strongly agree with your assessment. Part of the reason why I flew out to Colorado and brought back an 8.3 Cummins RE.

They ride nicer too due to the longer wheel base and more weight on the rear axle. The longer wheelbase can be a negative too, it took me awhile to get used to the significantly longer turning radius. There are some parking lots that I am able to whip through in an FE that you simply can't even consider doing in a pusher.

Very true.. The FE definitely has a tighter turning radius... What I found troublesome Was The swing of the back end.

Different strokes for different folks.

After driving my front engine tc2000, the rear engine all American feels impossible in a parking lot. Turns I could swing with ease have become three point maneuvers. The tail swing never really bothered me, you just have to be aware of your surroundings and my back up camera really helped there.

Issues: Rust all over body, Rust floor supports and floor, Soft wood, interior rust holes, Bad tires, Will run with a jump or batteries, Pulled from service due to rust and floors.

I know this bus. have wondered where it went.. it drove by me more than once sitting at Transcend coffee shop in grove city.. she sounded real strong driving by but was definitely rusty..

it has a nice drivetrain with a strong sounding 466E and an MD3060.

southwestern city just bought a whole bunch of brand new units so they are retiring a few.. they spec their busses out pretty nicely so it and the other one are probably air ride suspensions..

if anyone wants one of these this district is literally 2 miles from my house so I can look at them or drive one away if someone buys one.

That must be why Bluebird builds both.

Even with the larger turning radius I am far more comfortable in an RE. I really don't care for the "swinging tail".

Chris, I'd be interested in that bus if it would make it to Ga. What are the chances of test driving it foer me, if they allow. Or a go over to let me know your opinion of worth. 2 days to go and 11 bids at only $750. I'd take it for $1k.

Just saw this one come up. Decoded the VIN, it claims to be a TC2000 with a 225hp 5.9 and an Allison 2000. I have never seen the 2000 used in a TC2000 before!

https://www.govdeals.com/index.cfm?f...00&acctid=3565

Edit: it looks like they have several of these although I didn't decode the rest.

While the photos are limited they didn't look particularly rusty. As Charlie will attest to, the crappy ads turn away a lot of buyers and often end up being bargain buses.

If I knew someone who wanted a lowish mile A2000 I'd consider going in halfsies to get the lowish mile motor, and potentially scrap or part out the rest.

Often the really rusty floors are on buses that look awesome on the outside.

Crappy ads scare away the other buyers. That's how I got my bus for $1600.
I think the bus yard made the ad crappy on purpose.

don't remember them offering any big buses in that auction. Don't remember anything crappy about the ad, was surprised they didn't pull more money. That was a 1/1000 deal.

Yeah, it was a blurry photo too close up to see anything and a vague description that was poorly worded. I think they had like 4 or 5 shorties.
They also didn't do very well at answering questions. I knew all the facebook newbs would be too scared to bid.

I already had a bus but can't resist a deal!

allison 2000s were used in TC's. everything got a 2000 after model year 02 and mostr model year 03's did.. in 02 the 2000 was a more popular option as it was being encouraged for better MPGs and longevity vs the AT545.. while many TCs are AT545 not all were..

Somebody on reddit is selling an already-gutted and mostly-completed roof-raised bus with a Cummins, 643 and highway gearing for $5500: https://www.reddit.com/r/skoolies/co...roof_raise_95/
