I bought one from Brant last year (not sure if he has another or not). it was a hassle, since he didn't actually have the title (don't ask). But got it all figured out eventually.
I'm still planning on converting mine, but haven't made much headway since plans changed for us and we ended up buying a house. I suppose for the right price I'd sell it, but if you can wait, and find one at auction, you'll do a lot better. I think I'd have to get $9k for mine to let it go.
Mine's a 1988, 40ft, with a remanufactured Detroit diesel 6v92TA - most likely around 64k miles on it (that's what the odometer has on it, and makes sense based on the date it was replaced). I've taken seats out, removed signage, and had a full $1k service done (flush/replace all fluids and go over the entire bus, replace a few seals, etc).
If you're seriously interested, PM me, and I can give you details. If you're going to offer $5k I'm not gonna sell though, and you should just keep an eye out for auctions. I think this is probably the best platform I could find for my style of full conversion (I'm keeping all the extra tall windows, RE, super solid, no rust, good storage underneath, heavy duty drive train, etc).

Thanks, guys. I'm really trying to keep my skoolie between 30&35 ft. Nice bus, though... Sammy, how many windows does your 40' have?

That ACTUAL bus is on ebay again. Not sure what happened with the previous sale. You can see it here: 1988 Gillig Phantom School Bus | eBay
Also, apparently the engine sounds like a "pair of racing porches." I don't know about you, but I prefer my porch stationary. Seems like it would be hard to enjoy your cold beer if the porch was racing around.

Any way of verifying that mileage? I'd imagine the gauges have been replaced.

LOL... Haven't you seen the new racing porches designed by Ferdinand? They look screamin' fast just sitting still.
I am watching this auction closely. It'll be interesting to see what the reserve is set at.

I think that's 17k miles just on the engine, as in, the engine was replaced/remanufactured 17k miles ago.

no apologies needed.
I just worry when I see such low mileage listed. My gauge was replaced 128k miles ago, but if I were selling it I'd be honest and say that it has 237k.
The gauges on internationals are VERY often replaced due to breakage, and it seems CL bus sellers often like to take advantage of this.

That's why I ask for an hour count too, if one's available.
