so far the guys at Florida Transportation systems have been good to me for parts.. though they are a Bluebird dealer, and not AmTran / IC though...

sometimes i think these dealers only want to deal with the big purchasers and not the little guy.,. maybe midwest's parets guys are on commission or such.. commission sales often turns peeps into Douches'!

It is not a skoolie, but has a great power train combo - might be something worth looking at converting or grabbing the engine and tranny out of.

"The truck does 470,000 miles, however the previous owner rebuilt the engine at just over 300,000.*"

Previous owner... I would guess there is probably no proof of the rebuild.

Good find anyhow.

More AZ Bluebirds.
FE 8.3 mechanical. Cracked windshield and needs batteries, but could be a good bus for someone if the price stays low.

Both have a/c also. Only thing that would make them nicer would be faster rear ends.

I wonder what they have the reserves set at.

That actually looks like a great bus!

While the price is a bit on the high side it isn't unreasonable.

The DT530 is the big brother to the DT466. Most were set at 300-335 HP. That makes a HUGE difference when you get to the steep parts of the hill. While the DT466 might have to slow down and drop down a gear or two and slow down from 70 MPH to 45 MPH, the DT530 might only have to drop out of OD and slow to 60 MPH.

It does have some issues in a school bus, most of which are heat related. It is really tough to cool down an engine mounted in the rear of a bus. Increase the HP and you increase the need for more cooling making it that much more difficult to cool the engine on a hot day on a steep grade. It isn't just a matter of installing a bigger radiator, larger transmission coolers, and larger engine oil coolers. It also requires increased air flow to take the heat away. And increasing air flow is really difficult in a rear engine bus.

I haven't see the line setting ticket but I would wager a bet that in addition to the big HP engine it also has the larger brakes that were available. It most probably also has some sort of auxiliary braking system like an engine brake, driveline retarder, and/or transmission retarder.

I suspect the bus is at a dealer. If you walked in with cash in hand you could most probably get out the door for a lot less than the asking price.

But again, at that particular asking price I would consider that bus a bargain considering the age, mileage, spe'c's, and power package

The phone number maps back to a Tillery Chevrolet in the Albequerque area.

cowlitzcoach; Years ago many buses were fitted with that air scoup and duct at the top rear of the bus for additional air flow in the engine compartment. Would something like that increase the airflow enough to help these newer buses with the heat issue?

Wonder if they were left over from the previous Gilbert bus auction? Someone must've balked at paying up.

Either way those dealers are probably gonna drive the bidding up to stupid levels so I would advise people to keep their expectations in check.

Most of the time if the first bidder fails to complete the sale the item will be offered to the second highest bidder at his highest offer. I've gotten offers from PS.

Oh definitely. If I were wanting a bus like it right now, I'd have already bid. Personally I'd go something like $3600 right off the bat and if I get outbid oh well. I'd just add it to the hundreds of other vehicles I've been outbid on.

With 11R22.5 tires, 2400 rpm is 62 mph with a 4.78 rear
