Yeah, that's auctions. Things got crazy after PS went to online bidding.

I used to live near the fairgrounds in Salem and oral auctions were more fun.

The more and more I think about it, I might buy a bus with a less desirable powertrain combo, say IDI 7.3 Allison AT545 and buy an older International MDT with a 466 and manual OD trans and just do a drivetrain swap, sell the truck with the 7.3/545 combo to a sucker and have a 466 to jam gears with. Oh yeah, I'd much prefer a dog nose.

I think similarly. But I'd do an 8.3 in a shorty. Of just skip the medium duty stuff and go for class 8 stuff.

So all this talk of GovDeals and Public Surplus...
here are the four vehicles all bought from the two sites mentioned (the shorty is way in the back). All four cost less than six grand total.

To me... Not even worth scrap.
Scrap minus the tow. Been sitting 25 years... Will take $$$$ just to make it drivable, let alone livable.
It is cool and to someone it may be THE one.

I LOVE the old Macks.
But "classic" buses are worth scrap to me, as cool as they may be.
I've got a buddy who's thinking of trying to sell a 66 Ford skoolie he got for free. We think its worth scrap, but I've seen folks restore buses that are further gone!

1986 Chevy Blue Bird school bus. Food truck conversion. - $33000 (Portland, OR)

Officially the most expensive 80's shorty bus I've seen. I thought this was interesting after reading the recent thread about converting a bus to a food truck in FL. This one uses the bus windows rather than modifying the bus.

hey the bus part is JUST LIKE my old bluebird!!!

mine was an 86 GMC! shortie.. 454...

I SOOO wish my current bluebird had that Dashboard setup (the driver console and heater / defroster).. I TOTALLY dug that more than my current dash..

My dash looks like it came right out of a S-10 PU, but has more buttons and gages.

on the 86 Bluebird, the gauges themselves were generic.. but I like the driver console better..

for one, there were separate fan motors for the Left and right defrosts, and right heat, as well as first front passenger heat..

I was table to take the driver heater box apart and install an Evaporator core inside it,.. so then in summer.. I would turn on the Defrost ..swivel those black round vents around to blow on me and I had A/C!! on nasty rainy cold days.. i engaged the compressor and the heater.. and had dehumidified defrost air... no fogged up windows on group outings..

the bus already had a rear A/C that did little to keep Numero Uno cool on hot days.. similar to my current bus.. only on the current one(RedByrd) I'll have to do some Voodoo for dash A/C like i did to the carpenter..

Interesting. I would have thought that ground clearance was the determining factor -- and clearance between the transmission and the axle.

Regardless.... I have sent messages to the seller, and not heard back.

Knock on wood, I'm still high bidder on one of the WV buses and one of the WA buses. I don't remember why I bid on the one WV bus over the one you are but good luck. Actually kinda hope you lose it. Then if I win both I can just sell mine to you!!

Fixed for grammar. Probably get the tow truck stuck just getting it to the pavement.
