Cyfair around houston is known to be really good about mechanical maint on their busses, and most of them are A/C (if thats important).. they dont sell very often but seems when they do alot of nice units with lots of life left in them.

www.onlinepros.com. usually is where CyFair and other texas districts sell in addition to the usual govdeals and publicsurplus

There's a fantastic list of government auction buses and related vehicles at https://www.govdeals.com/index.cfm?f...=&category=94H

You can sort the list by price. Looks like some are going for just a few hundred dollars, likely mostly the non-running ones. But sometimes they have only trivial problems, I have bought two vehicles at police auctions that ran very well after only the most minor repairs like putting in a new battery.

If I was going to get a second bus it would be one of the shorty diesel ones and I'd convert it to run on any oil.

2003 flat nose thomas school bus air brakes 54 passenger diesel

I purchased this bus last year [around March 2017]. My husband and I wanted to make a conversion into a schoolie and watched tons of how to videos. Alas, I lost my husband on February this year so no schoolie for me.
I posted it on ebay today 10/17/2018 hopefully someone from this site gets it. If you need more info please feel free to contact me.

RE Blue Bird Caterpillar Bloodmobile with 119,000

Fleet maintained, probably 40 feet, looks to be in excellent condition, asking $7,500.

I had a 69 GM New Look Fishbowl with an Origami Windshield. I learned that there were two kinds of rare in the world. Windshields for my bus and undiscovered Picasso paintings. Both were equally valuable.

I love my current coach for so many things..... the glass is not one of those things. I has the largest windshield I've ever seen on a vehicle. Fortunately it's not as rare as Picasso art. Unfortunately NeOPLAN left the USA and I did not realize that until I had bought the bus and got it home. Such is life. Windshields are $5K plus install and have a 6 week lead time from Europe. Side glass is $2k plus install and also has a 6 week lead time from Europe.

Those are just best guestimates.

I encourage folks to research maintenance costs before buying.

One of the major advantages for skoolies is that parts are reasonably easy to get and tires are very standard. Tire prices double for coaches. It's either unusual, uncommon, foreign, or custom on coaches by the time they hit the RV universe.
I'm researching busses and I hadn't thought of that! The windows are what draws me to a coach, but ouch!

Even older Skoolies can have tough parts to come by.. ie glass for 1960s superiors is tough.. suspension and steering parts for older coaches where it was more custom than standard at the time..

I know quite a few people that restore convert or restomod coaches from the 50s /60s etc and have sometimes had to have parts custom made for 1000s for a single part.

Transmissions on many city transit busses while obtainable are huge bux.. ie ZF or Voith can run you 10-15k plus if you lose a trans..

Thirty minutes to go on a very clean International. Only downside I saw was the hydrolic brakes.
