Perfect bus for conversion!

Hello all, I happened across a sweet little jewel out here in Colorado that would be perfect for a Skoolie! She is a 97 Amtrak/IC with about 85K miles on a good old DT466 engine. This bus came from Aspen CO where it was bought new and just recently taken out of regular service and was driven from Aspen to Commerce City to sell. All CO school busses under go a rigorous annual safety inspection regulated by the department of education with standard much higher than the federal DOT making them some of the best maintained and safest used busses in the country. Coming from Aspen means it is tuned and geared for mountain driving which means higher HP and torque than a flatland bus. This bus is in amazing condition for the age and could go out on route tomorrow. She is all airbrake, has a working wheelchair lift, automatic (pneumatic) tire chains, driveline retarder (giant electromagnet for slowing bus without braking). Asking 6K, but would go as low as $5500. Email me at richy_04@hotmail.com if interested.

Sorry, it is an Allison AT545 trans. I don’t recall the measurements offhand, can get them on Monday. I do remember it has 78” headroom, about 17’ from back of driver’s seat to back of bus, so probably about 25-26’ bumper to bumper.

Tis a really sweet bus.
I wouldn't budge on the price. In fact I'd be asking more like $7500. 5 grand is the auction price on a bus like that. I'd have shot a bit higher man.
Folks on FB and even this site will pay way more money than that for MUCH less bus.

Interested in any trades?

Good looking rig. Keep that 545 cool and it should go a long ways.

On a positive- with that retarder the lack of engine braking isn't a big deal in the mountains. If this can cruise around Aspen its a mountain bus!
Interested in a 2013 Subaru Crosstrek, op? 5 speed, 67k miles.

Yup, that retarder will definitely keep her slowed down! Lol, shoot me some pix of the subaru, that is a tempting offer!

Yeah, you are totally right on price. Only reason the tag is so low is because we just moved out here recently and are still adjusting to the sticker shock on the Denver housing market. Also need to fund getting our in progress conversion out here from IL. If this bus were full sized I would be selling mine and keeping it! First 6K will take it, obviously if somebody wants to pay more that would be great

Yeah, Denver is definitely much more expensive than it was a decade ago. Almost as if there was a large influx of new people in the state for some reason......

here's the car-

I haven't listed it for sale yet. We paid it off early and will be getting rid of it this month or next. If you're in the market for a sube I would take a bus and some cash. book value on the car is over 11k but I'm pretty negotiable.

All, I have a standing offer on the bus. Interested party is planning to come look at the bus in the next week or 2. I will update the thread accordingly once they do.
