SOLD 1983 BMW "Airhead" motorcycle

1983 BMW R100 (1000 cc). This is the classic air cooled "boxer" twin, with the cylinders sticking out like airplane wings. It was an RT model originally, but a previous owner took the fairing off and sold it, so it is a "naked" bike now.

Cosmetically, it is a bit faded.

Mechanically, it is in good condition. The previous owner was a pretty serious "Airhead" fan, and he did a ton of work and got it ready for use, including new tires. I still have his long list of stuff he did.

I bought it in August 2006. Now, here is the weird part: I absolutely HAD to have this bike. Ass over applecart in love. Then I rode it once. Once. Loved it, except I need to swap handlebars (I have the other bar). But I got the "falling in love" out of my system, and I have too many other toys and projects.

US $ 2.500,-. Same as I paid. Sorry, that's firm. I don't mind keeping it.

It is in Clearlake, Northern California.

Obviously, I ought to post pictures, and I will as soon as I dig it out of the garage -- maybe in a couple of days.

All right, it took me a year!... but I have extricated it from the garage.

In the last year, I have started a couple other projects that need funding, so the $2.500 price is now "slightly flexible".

It's a beauty! So much better without the fairings.
You should post it on ADVrider.com.

I will stick to my "leatherman" DRZ. It's the tool that seems to fit just about every job so far.

Re: 1983 BMW "Airhead" motorcycle

Thanks! I'm keeping an eye out for a replica "S" fairing for it. That's a tiny little thing that just covers the headlight and the instruments. That would match the tail cone behind the seat. Then remove the luggage rack, which is useless anyway, and it would look more "of one piece" from front to rear.

There are two dedicated BMW web sites I could list it on, but it is in such good mechanical condition that I have very mixed feelings about advertising it. Somebody might buy it!
