Thoughts on this bus

I am searching for a bus with bay storage

What do you think of price?

Is this worth it?

Nice School bus

Travelingmom,

I assume that's a northern bus? If so be leary of rust spots in it, especially around the wheel wells. Mine is a 99 mvp and I got a bigger bite than I thought on mine. Look at my thread before you decide. And if you do, offer 5 for it. Worse they could say is no.

I would also drive it too. Get a feel on it. Make sure it does all its supposed to.

What engine does that one have, Steve? Decent price for a dealer.

But yeah, folks are kinda leery of northern buses due to the possibility of rust.

This bus has the CAT 3126 6 cylinder diesel engine.

Located in Winchester, Va so it's not really "Northern".

Again, dont buy anything for the sole reason it has low miles. Always find out the engine hours!

I'd check out Steve's stuff. NY has the most stringent DOT inspections of anyone. If you can find one fresh out of service, there shouldnt be too much wrong with it.

It is less a "Northern" issue than a "Salty" issue.

That looks like an okay bus but if it has a Cat engine it isn't worth as much as an identical bus with a Cummins, particularly a Cummins 8.3/ISC.

It is a Thomas MVP RE so it is not spe'c'ed as heavy duty as a Thomas Saf-T-Liner RE. Brakes, axles, engine, and transmission will not be as heavy duty. It will have running gear that is more like a Type 'C' bus--good but not the best.

Only you can decide if a bus further away would be as good as this bus.

A bus that costs you $4K to purchase that is a much better bus that costs you $2K to go and fetch home is still going to be a better bus.

Personally I would offer much less and not want to pay anything more than $4K if it has a Cat or a Cummins ISB and not more than $5K if it has a Cummins ISC.

And that is all based on no rust, anywhere. If there is minor body rust and with no rust through anywhere the same pricing would apply. If there is any rust through I would significantly lower the offer price.

Good luck!
