Probably "stimulus" money.
Even if not, this is a testament to gov't waste for sure.

yep and the same Tampa water department is selling a crappy looking carport/shed that you could buy for $1000 and they claim to have paid $6100 for 10 years ago.
I see a pattern.

Fire towers are SO COOL!!!
They've been decommissioning them all over FL. It makes me sad, as they are to me a part of the landscape. I always thought the fire towers were really cool.
I've seen several of the local ones go for like a hundred bucks at auction.
The auctions all stipulate that you must be certified and insured to remove them. Factor in moving, reassembly, and restoration (they're OLD) and they are probably worth their weight in scrap.
I've tried to convince several friends to let me buy them one, if they pay to have it disassembled and all. No one seems to wanna take me up on that offer.
I'd LOVE to have one. I'd have my morning coffee and smoke up there every day.

Boy, as a ham I'm looking at those fire towers and thinking just how good my Elecraft would look in a corner with a SteppIR on top! Toss-in a few solar panels and some drone-delivered groceries and I swear I'd never come down.

It has a power inlet. Maybe it has a real sweet AC unit? ;)
