Allison 2000 is what I installed. I thought the ones that went to shift module on 545 would no longer be used. Communication from ecm to tcm through can-low/high 3 wire black, yellow, green. The plug was on the back side of ecm but was capped. I also have power wires connected as well. Most connections ligned right up. I think backbone plug is optional although I made need a wire or 2 to go to something.

I think the first thing I need to do is to get the “check trans light” working. That may my only issue. Serial #’s of the 545 and 2000 and vin of bus were looked into by International and Allison. Before I started this I checked that this trans could go in this bus. If I can get it to shift, then I can get it to my local guy for ecm programming. Only wires not connected are at top of trans where they all tie in to bus harness. NSBS seems to be fine

the backbone harness is for diagnostics the check trans light and the Econ button.. the 3 wire CAN interface is correct and how the trans talks to the ECM.. navistar called the check trans light the "shift inhibit".

there are a couple wires that would go into a 9 pin diagnostic connector.. the 9 pin came standard startingf mid year 2000 on all busses.. if you swap the 6 pin for a 9 pin and insert the 2 J1939 wires for the cab harness then someone with Allison DOC or ServiceMaxx pro can read the transmission codes if any exist.

You'll have a Speed sensor connector as the speedometer speed is provided I believe its a brown wire from tne TCM.. the original "shift controller" was a 2 pin connector on the side of the AT545 (silver can).. you are right that is no longer necessary..

if you dont reprogram your navistar ECM you will have speedometer issues and cruise control will be broken. the J1939 data is also different when you change the ECM program.. updating the ECM with NavKal will help shift experience.. my trans didnt like to downshift correctly in cruise control mode until I replaced my complete ECM with one from a 2004 (you'd use a 2003 or a pre EGR 04)..

the check trans light comes on anytime the TCM receives IGN power.. and the TCM needs both BAT and IGN power to work.

What’s not connected is a 2 wire plug that is gray and 1 brown wire. Trans in limp mode. Reverse lights work. Large plug that would got to backbone of j1939 not connected either. My bus has the j1708 6 pin. Hope to get into this tomorrow. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks for the “remember me” tip
Well, you have me confused. Try and clarify what you have going on here. Maybe start a different thread because it seems like you're troubleshooting an issue, and this one is asking what the cost of the swap would be.

EDIT - Looks like chris got to you. Hopefully he can get you squared away.

545-2000 swap

Thanks and yeah I’m trying to get the hang of this sight. Didn’t mean to hyjack the thread. I’m in for about a $1000 right now. $500 got me everything out of the donor bus with blwn eng. $140 to shorten driveshaft. $200 in fluid. 1-200 in miscellaneous fittings and stuff. Will need to get ECM parameters changed. So whatever that costs as well

once you get your TCM powering up correctly.. your bus will be driveable ecven if the speedometer goes wonky and the J1939 isnt perfect.. as long as the connection communicates throttle data the trans will function to drive it before ECM programming..

if the J1939 link isnt established then the check trans lights stays on and Lockup is disabled on the trans.. it uses converter slip to approximate throttle and shift accordingly..

Thanks for the help with this. Just saw what you had written earlier. Missed it before. Brown wire is the only one not connected. Does it need to be. I wasn’t totally clear by your above answer. My bus currently has no wiring for check trans light. Is it necessary? Pulled gauge cluster and female plug has no receptacle that corresponds with the pin that goes to trans light.

thre check trans light was always a separate light on the chassis dash called "shift inhibit".. then there was the econ button..

on my harness the brown wire went to the pin on the TCM corresponding to the speed sensor output.. im not sure if navistar used brown for that ..
mine is a little different than yours because I installed a 4th gen system (for 6 gears)..

the check trans light isnt necessary for the trans to operate correctly, the correct power and ground leads to the TCM and trans are..

That all makes sense. I have power going to the trans, key on, through what looks like orange 2 wire plug. Grays are all connected which I think are ground and brown will be for speedo connection which is black 2 wire in my bus. Key off power supplied from t-in connections near starter. The trans should reset from limp mode from key off/ on. Getting there....at least I know what it isn’t.
