In case anyone is looking for a Crown Coach to convert I thought I'd mention the situation
here in the So Cal area. As the end of the the school and calendar year approaches many
operators and or school districts are looking over their fleet to see which vehicles can be
upgraded to the draconian regulatory specs needed to keep them in service past the December
deadline. Those vehicles that are for whatever reasons not possible or to costly to keep must
be disposed of. And I mean destroyed and utterly crushed at a certified scrap yard. Just last
week I found two Crowns immediately available for purchase. They are both 40ft 3-axles with
manual (not-automatic) transmissions. One with a Cummins has a 10spd over-drive, the other
one has a Detroit 6-71 with 5-spd.. Both appear in good useable condition and were driven
to where they are now sitting awaiting their fate. Not sure what price would be but I'm sure it
will be less than $10k. As the supply dries up I'm seeing the prices start to rise for those buses
still worth buying. Most any Crown worth having is still a steal up to $10k considering how much
life remains in them and the low costs of repair and over-all ownership. My email is
mikemcc2k@yahoo.com if anyone wants more info.
