Wheelchair Accessible Skoolie

Looking for people who have modified their buses to work for someone in a wheelchair. I am a 47 yr old paraplegic, who enjoys the outdoors. Seems like a skoolie project would be perfect for me to customize the way I need it, also the wheelchair lift would be a bonus. Hit me with what you have large or small. I'm a waterfowler so I will be packing extra gear in the fall and winter...decoys, blinds, boots, guns, layout boats and an extra hunter. Thanks Andy

Re: Wheelchair Accessible Skoolie

You've got lits of options when it comes to Skoolies.
I'm still searching for the right bus myself but what I can tell you is that it's not that diffcult over all to fibd a good deal.

The vast majority of fleet companies dont like buying used buses of any variety so resale is usually low. On thw bring side, after your conversion of a used vehcile you can usuallu recoup most if not all of you investment when you decide to upgrade (so long as you dont have horrible interior decorating skills and a passion for 80's wallpaper).

Anyhow, you can search for school buses or you can search for Shuttle buses. Both commonly have lifts.
I dont know where you live but here's a school bus sample in new york state.

Also, if you rnd up finding skoolies in your area, many have little use for the lifts and while they cost thousands new, there's no market for ones.

Hope this helps get you started.

Boy I sure liked the price on that one. That's what I'm looking for, my dream. Only I live in Aberdeen, Washington; nice to see they are out there. I'll keep posting as time goes on. TU

Re: Wheelchair Accessible Skoolie

Washington State sells surplus buses for most school districts. Very good buses usually go for 2 to 3k, and a lot have the wheel chair lift. Anything from van style to 40 footers. Check the Public Surplus Site, that's where they sell.

I do believe that fewer school buses are going on the block, due to a lack of money for replacement.
