Such a shame... No matter how safe you are, there's always certain circumstances that will cause fatalities.

So sad have friends in that area .

Praying for the speedy recovery of the little ones hurt . And sending my support to those that lost one of their precious babies that eventually the pain they feel will lighten as it never truly stops ..

Scary part is how damn fast was he going on a residential street to flop a bus and slide into a tree!
No other vehicles involved also, we are waiting on more news of the actually accident

Prayers out for familys and victims

I heard rumors the bus was going "incredibly fast" according to the news... I havent read all the articles or such, but the picture looks like that bus slammed into that tree hard..

He didn't just slide into a tree! The tree near cut the bus in half! How fast was he going?

Hopefully this will be a catalyst for schools to expedite the installation of belts. It doesn't say if this bus had them or not. If it did, this would have been a lot worse without.

If it did not, those belts could have prevented the destruction of six families.

I doubt belts wouldve helped in this case.. you have a case of ab us collapsing.. so 6 different kids wouldve died and the rest wouldve been hanging from their seats.. no one in those middle rows wouldve stood a chance..

I know, right? And that he allegedly said "Y'all ready to die?" or words to that effect.....

I hope they send him to prison for a LONG time.

belts create other issues - first it TIME to put them and off- a bus isn't supposed to move with a kid standing..so this will no doubt extend run times, loading and unloading times.
And theres NO WAY for the driver to be sure every kid puts on their seatbelt.
And fitting..kid wearing a backpack..carrying a science project, gym stuff..and you gotta fit little Kindergartners all the way to HS linebackers on the same bus...sorry, not gonna work too well. Kids won't be able to get belted in right so that defeats the purpose.

Safety..ok, bus catches on fire, rolls over, etc - how long will it take to get the kids out of the bus? cutting seat belts takes time..times 70 kids...too long is how long.

What is being worked on, not sure I'm a fan or not..is to make speeding a wreckless driving charge for ALL cdl drivers nationwide..which includes bus drivers.

All our buses have cameras with GPS..and at the end of the day emails a report of all speeding incidents to the boss. Yep..it's that smart.

And it's damned easy to go 37 in a 35 down a hill, or actually a lot faster. We have two 11% grades we drive daily (state roads) plus many other steep side roads.

And this would apply to tractor trailer drivers too..would be an interestig world.

Here in PA a wreckess driving conviction is an automatic 6 month license suspension..and we're already short cdl drivers, let alone good ones.

I have a hard time believing the driver said that., He was proably going way to fast & by looking at the picture they showed his eyes looked like he was stoned, I hope I'm wrong about that 2nd point, we just have to wait for the blood results to know for sure, It's a sad situation for sure & can't began to imagine what the family's are going thru, God speed to the victims.

I could imagine the grief being so great that a mom might imagine something like that and state it as fact, too: nobody could think straight after losing a child, so I'm not trying to criticise. But there have been a lot of faked reports lately, so I dunno. I could also imagine it being a form of "Oh, Jeepers, we're in trouble!" statement on his part, rather than a glee-filled "Look what I'm going to do."

If he DID do this intentionally, someone needs to update Dante...

It was actually on several of the news reports I watched about it.... I might be a little skeptical if it was only on one, but several..... that gives it more credibility.

Supposedly the week before he told the kids to "shut the eff up, I've got a hangover" or something to that effect. That's what one news article said.

Looks like maybe the frame rails are bent !
Such a tragedy that likely could have been prevented.

Reports are that the driver side swiped a Kia Soul on a curve when he crossed over into the oncoming lane.
