Something really "off" with that crash.
First the school bus rear ends a Mustang then travels a good 1/4 mile and then hits the MTA bus head on. And no skid marks from school bus.

Maybe cruise control or the throttle control was set or something?
I agree- when I looked at it something sure didn't seem right.

since the aide on the skoolie survived they may be able to find out what happened to it... it also doesnt say whether the school bus driver stayed in the deat or not.. or why it hit the stang.. but if the driver seatbelt was off and then they hit the stang.. or perhaps hit a bump and bounced right out of the air seat.. (theres a video of a driver bouncing out of an air seat on youtube)... and had no abilities to operate the brakes this couldve easily happened.. or of course a medical where the driver had a seizure and stomped the go pedal...

Baltimore police spokesman said the school bus was traveling east on Frederick Avenue when it struck a Ford Mustang, hit a pillar at a cemetery, continued east onto oncoming traffic and struck the MTA bus.The fatalities included five from the MTA bus along with the school bus driver.

Medical conditions: sort of seizure would likely be behind, they say

you are closer in proximity... I havent seen anything about medical conditions... not much you can do about a seizure or somethuing like that..
amazing the student aide only received minor injuries... they usually sit in the first chair behind the driver which was obliterated... or they were in a different part of the bus...
Lucky there wasnt a fire.. a lot of blackening on the bottom of that school bus like the batteries started to burn....

The account in reading today says both drivers were killed...
Not sure of the location physically, but commenters are suggesting the bus was traveling well over 25mph speed limit.

It very well could have been... if the driver suffered some kind of seizure or something it could very well have stiffened his leg which could have caused the accelerator to go to the floor. That will be for the medical examiner to determine.

12 wrecks in 5 years....
I think I'd take my chances walking along a 6 lane freeway in Dallas, at night, in the rain, before I got on his bus!!!

I'm simply gobsmacked that someone with a CDL and passenger endorsement can have 12 accidents in just 2 years and still be employed as a bus driver. Were pull notices obtained from the DMV, and if not why not? I work for a State agency that used to have some school bus drivers, and if they were in any accidents or were ticketed for any reason they would have been immediately removed from their duties until an investigation had been completed and had exonerated them of any culpability, and if not they would be terminated. How can a CDL holder pass his/her annual physical exam with all those serious medical conditions? One of our drivers had a slight medical condition that was enough to prevent him from renewing his license, and it was a lot less serious than the Baltimore driver's reported conditions.

Wow. I just went back and read that article.
That bus contractor is going to get taken to the cleaners.
They're going to get sued by the families of every one of those people that died (except one). They were employing a driver without a valid CDL. It sounds like at least one of his medical exemptions hadn't been kept current.
Those exemptions are extremely time consuming to get, and to maintain. I just received a federal diabetes exemption and a medical card last month, so I can finally get a CDL. To maintain the diabetes exemption (which this driver had to have in order to get a CDL) you're required to submit blood testing records in conjuction with a driver's log and a form completed by a doctor at a visit every 3 months.
It's a real shame that there're companies out there that allow this kind of thing to happen.

And last but not least the driver wasn't yanked after multiple reports from students and parents that the bus was being driven recklessly... that right there should've told someone that there were issues on that bus. Regardless of whether the kids were brats or bullies etc.. something wasn't done to remove the driver or put a monitor on the bus if the kids truly were the issue ..
I know of one route here in town where the driver was verbally assaulted every single day so the schools put cameras and mikes on her bus and removed the problem children.. it sounds like to me yes the driver definitely had issues of his own but the company also is at fault after said driver reported issues with the kids and he wasn't switched to another route or action taken.. ESP once it was reported he was driving erratically. That's a red flag to do something.. at a management level!! Yeah on all counts it apppears that company should be held liable!
