That was me. I don't wanna at all sound like I'm on some anti-RE thing.
But if I'm being honest here- I have noticed a bit of a trend with the RE's and fires.

You aren't the only one who has noticed the trend. In a lot of the cities I've lived in I've noticed that city buses(giligs mostly) that have engines in the back catch fire more often than the dog nose nationals that schools own. There is a similar argument about vans and trucks. Not semis or box vans, the regular small passenger sized ones.

Funny this should be mentioned! We had a a RE Montgomery bus that we had bought go up in flames after a run on New Years Day. Luckily, no one was injured and the bus was actually already back at our yard. Unluckily, it had just been parked next to another bus, and so, both went up in flames.

We never found out what the cause was. The driver didn't report anything strange, until he saw flames coming out the back. We speculated a stuck brake, but the only evidence we had to support that was that the fire appeared to originate from the wheel. The insurance company did no real investigation, but they did give us $16,000 per bus! (not bad considering we paid $3000 per).

Im not the biggest fan of these buses, but we got a lot of them real cheap.

Man, I really wonder what caused it. I would hate for this to happen to mine. I am obsessive about maintenance, but the wiring on these buses is absolute garbage, it is such a mess. I wouldn't be surprised if it had something to do with that.
