New law in the making

I was just reading this and it scares me to think that living in a skoolie might soon be government regulated. We are currently looking for the perfect bus to build for our home.

If Emperor Clinton gets in that will be the least of our regulatory concerns!

And won't affect my Shorty. It's under 32'.

But it is a great example of what can be accomplished with enough Lobbying money put into the hands of the right politicians.

Not sure what that link is to..or means from what I read.

It seems to concern whether or not HUD would consider a park model RV a home, or not. Vs a 'travel trailer' or RV.

Park model RVs are in between a travel trailer and 'manufactured home' - aka mobile home, so I'm thinking this has to do with calling a park model trailer a mobile home.

none of which has anything to do with living in your RV.

If you want to live in an RV full time you need to get texas registration..I think utah is the other option, not sure.

In TX you can be a non-resident, um, resident. Title the vehicle, vote, have a drivers license, etc and not reside in the state -ever. You do have to go there ot get the process initialized, then you get one of the services there that do mailboxes, etc type stuff - it's where you get your mail sent and they'll forward it to where ever you may be.

As for affording a place to stay, you buy into a 'resort' - a Resort of Distinction is one 'brand' - you buy into a local member resort and tehn can can stay free at any other ROD resort...I belong to roaring run and pay a $300 annual maintenance fee and can stay up to 3 weeks at a time at any ROD resort in the US. Free. Or any AOR resort for $9/night.

There are toher similar organizations. And they are private - so MUCH better than any public campground you've ever been in.

I looked into this a few yrs ago & what I discovered is there's a company in South Dakota that for the most part & couple hundred dollars sells you what amounts to a P.O. Box but establishes residency, I believe SD doesn't charge income tax to it's citizens, what this company does is hold your mail while
Traveling then when you settle some place for awhile you call & they box everything up & ship to you & forward everything to you, get ready to travel again call they hold everything. Another thing I liked about SD is they don't require Vehicle inspections, I may be wrong but doesn't Texas have insp.??

I've heard about um, camper disrimination (skoolie, old campers) but never seen it.
The one we joined allowed us in there with a 66 apache popup - it looked nice but we looked rather, um, grapes of wrath when setup.

I've never seen a skoolie in person..anywhere ever..so no idea what the issues may be.

If it's not in the contract then tehy can't refuse you, right?

You would think that.... but at the same time I don't want to spend the money to join ROD or a similar program only to get turned away at every campground because I'm in a Skoolie. Granted it's a later model Skoolie but still...

wonder why so many skoolies get turned away? is there still that "hippie bus" mentality going around?

Liability, Most private campgrounds want a RVIA certification on rigs they allow in.
