Ya gotta give him credit - before the first hit, he clearly steered toward the guide rail and 'slid' along the sides of the stopped cars.

Most drivers would just stand on the brakes and plow straight into the back of the last car, pushing it into the second, third, fourth, etc - and usually resulting in multiple deaths instead of two serious injuries.
