School Bus hit by Amtrak

They just showed on CNN a few minutes ago footage of a school bus in Michigan that was hit by train. The body was knocked clear off the chassis. No reports of injuries/casualties yet.

bloomfield hills is only about 25 miles from where i live. Glad to see no kids hurt, the driver was the only one on teh bus at the time of the accident.

This goes to show how incredibly strong a skoolie is. the body was ripped from the chassis and turned 180 degrees. If you ask me, the bus body seems to be in really good shape for having collided with a locomotive!

Try that with a flimsy RV and see what's left!

Re: School Bus hit by Amtrak

I'm curious of the details surrounding the incident. It's hard to believe that a bus stopped at a crossing could get blindsided, but every state has different rules. Heck, Washington state doesn't even require loaded school buses to stop at crossings if they have lights and/or gates in addition to the crossbuck.

Re: School Bus hit by Amtrak

buses in michigan, where this occurred, are required to stop at all railroad crossings......however this bus didn't have any kids on board, not sure if a bus is still required to stop if it's empty.

Re: School Bus hit by Amtrak

In California, you still have to stop even if the bus is empty.
