Semi Accident- Brakes Rigged Up With Plastic Bag!

Just when I think I've seen it all-

wow!! pretty bad.. so if thats the rears.. then oe of those bags lets loose and instant 8 wheels locked solid!.. yeooow!! or worse yet f it was the trailer brakes...

where's the DOT enforcement cars when you need em.. they wouldve OOS him immediately..

Never did anything stupid like that but did have the emergency line pop off on I75 resulting in the trailer brakes locking up and bring me to a stop in the left-hand lane, stupid 20 foot container trailers that stretch the brake lines

Maybe I'm wrong here, but it looks like all he did was use the plastic bag and zip ties to hold the lines together to keep them from being loose. So unless he used the bag and zip ties to fix an air leak, I fail to see how that lone item would've affected braking performance. Yeah, it's not the way it came from the factory, but I'd rather have him do it that way then to leave them dangle and get wrapped up in the driveshaft.

I know farmers that have used bail twine in situations just like that. Wrong way of doing it? Probably according to DOT, but if it works for the temporary fix that it was intended to be, what's the issue?

If you read the article, it also said speed was a factor....

I'm with Booyah, nothing in the article says the bag was related to the issue at all. Kudos for the driver finding a way to temporarily tie off the lines. Notice there is no wet spots on the hoses and the bag looks fresh. They put the bag in the story just to sensationalize the story. The bag had nothing to do with anything.

No one would put that bag on there knowing the pic was going to be taken, IMO.

I just found the location of the original picture. Turns out a washington state trooper took and tweeted the photo. Here it is https://twitter.com/wspd1pio/status/920517738841493505 .

In it, she states "Trooper on scene says it's tied together with a grocery bag"

She also states she's not to qualified to do level 1 cmv inspections, and that someone who was, would be inspecting it.

Nothing stated about air leaks being sealed by the bag (there's no f'ing way that bag would have sealed an air leak)

I still stand by my thoughts that I'd rather have him do it that way then to leave them dangle and get wrapped up in the driveshaft. If he used duck tape to do the same thing would you guys still be upset? Anybody here know the proper method of securing air brake lines?

I feel that this story was sensationalized by a bunch of people that didn't know what they were looking at.
