Anybody in SC got pre-conversion insurance?

Anybody in SC know a real source for pre-conversion insurance? Everybody (even National General) seems to want the conversion completed before they will issue a policy. I have been completely up front and honest with them, even sent pictures showing no seats (mine is a bookmobile and never even had seats in the first place) but it doesn't seem to matter.

would you happen to have a contact # for the specific agent I could call? Is yours still titled as a bus?

Okay I have South Carolina Progressive Insurance as a commercial vehicle for personal use however I'm not doing the South Carolina registration I'm going to attempt to do the Vermont registration only because it appears that Vermont is a easier registration and titling for the purpose of motorhome titles. If you go with South Carolina First the only thing they're going to offer you is a alternate title meaning that you made changes to the vehicle. And before anybody else jumps on what I'm doing I'm only doing this because my gross vehicle weight is 31000 pounds and that's what South Carolina is going by the weight of my vehicle.

I may go with the VT registration as well, but either way I need to get insurance before I can register here or there! Would you be so kind as to reveal exactly who I might call to obtain an insurance policy like yours?

Called them today, I have insurance! Very easy. Bus for personal use. Good until I convert and start using as an RV, then I will need to switch insurance. Thanks, IWC Bus!

Cool Bookmobile !

Nice sized bus ! Big doors, plenty of AC. You have a good head start.

I'm buying a bus on Monday and trying to get insurance so that I can get it home. I just called progressive and said that I had a bus with the seats removed to use for hauling hay to my farm. They said they can't insurance something that has been modified. What do I say to get it insurance for personal use? What do I say that the use is?

You call, or go online, to Progressive Commercial, not Progressive, and tell them you want to insure a bus for personal use. Removing seats is NOT modifying the bus, so don't tell them.

All they need to know is that you want to drive it home.

I did it online. When they ask about the type of business, start typing in "personal", and "Commercial Policy for Personal Use" will appear on the drop-down.

If they ask how many seats it has, count each remaining bench seat as two seats, and add one for the driver.

Steve, I know this is an old thread but approximately what do you pay year for that commercial for private use?
I have a Progressive commercial that I pay 685 and I think that's a little high for what I use it for.

My preconversion insurance is through Progressive as a MH policy. I paid $171 for the year.

I am not in SC and things do vary quite a bit by state.

I have insured three pretty conversion buses with State Farm and had great luck.

They are great to deal with and have really taken good care of me.

They have also covered my finished conversion as an RV at a very good rate.
