Anybody live in BC in Canada?

Does anyone live in BC in Canada? We are moving their and I just got a quote for the price on our bus from the insurance company there and was shocked! Sooooo expensive. I pay $160 year in Ab, and bc quoted $800 for the same type of policy.

I am unimpressed and am considering selling our bus, as I think spending that much on just insurance and registration in cr*p, so am unsure what to do.

canadian and american dollars are much more equal than they used to be. i live right next to canada.

a buck us is 1.15 canadian. I remember before katrina when it was much much better for us americans...more like 1 us $ was 1.5 canadian. I think it even got as good/bad (depending on what side of the border your'e on) as about 1.75 a few years back. It was much more fun making jokes about northern peso's then.

canada is expensive compared to michigan. They have a lot of tax too, at least in ontario. i think it's 15% sales tax. The entire country has the population of california, but they have to pay for infrastructure across that vast beautiful country. And they have "free" healthcare....

this entire post is completely off topic sorry it's 3am

800 in BC is actually cheap. My 2000 pick up costs me every year 1500 and that is with the 45% discount.

Insurance on your bus shouldn't be anywhere near as much as a daily driver. Rates are based on actuarials and lets face it....RV's don't get in many accidents per mile driven.

dude, you're getting raped. there's like 3 vehicles* in northern bc. what are the odds you'd run into one? I guess there's a pretty good chance of broadsiding a moose, though. I've seen what a moose will do to a car up in maine. not pretty.

My old skoolie ran me $700 a year. that was 8 yrs ago. In my crappy state of georgia they screw you on the skoolie conversions. They say a bus is a bus no matter what you do with it. I am getting ready to start on my 2nd skoolie and I will be title-ing and insuring this one in Oregon. I went out last year and bought my 2 acers just so I could be leagal there.

in oregon it will run me $97 a year.

BC

We're moving to Rossland BC. The insurance company (bc is not privatized for liability insurance) does not care how much the vehicle is driven, so an RV does cost the same as a dailey driver. Tis a pity. But we're thinking we'll insure it for only 6 months at a time as we'll not be driving much in the winter. Rossland gets an average of 25' of snowfall yearly. ! So come winter, it'll snow it in and we'll use it as a guest cabin for our ski loving friends who just want to stop by for a "nice visit". We move in three weeks and can't wait to get out of the city!

hi, thats not all your problems, any vechile from another province has to go thou a DOT inspection, and you know what thats means!!! EVERYTHING must work, tires, ball joints, glass, exhaust, lights, ect ect. so if you can fine a address there and insure it for a yr before you come to bc, at least you get a yr. good luck lefty

Re: Anybody live in BC in Canada?

Got our insurance at 600 for the year with co-operators. It was a real bitch to find a company to insure us!! Co-operators would only do it if we switched everything over to them!!

that sounds about right, i was quoted and i quote

"1,000,000$ liability, 1 year as a motorhome - 1255$
200,000 liability, 1 year as a motorhome - 1095$
+18$ plate fee"

"1,000,000$ liability, 1 year as a private coach (bus) - 1553$
2,000,000$ liability, 1 year as a private coach - 1573$

this is having my bus valued at 5000$ CAD

also was told it would need to pass national safety code and provincial inspection if it was used as a "bus"

seems impossible for a 1959 hahaha

here are some attachments you might find useful.

keep in mind, this is for an old bus that is BC registered already.

cheers

my 350 CAD car cost me 1200 CAD a year.

@ 23 i drive a 400$ jetta and it costs me 1000/year.

even though icbc has a monopoly, it doesnt hurt to shop at different insurance stores, iv gotten different quotes. just dont wait too long, rates going up inevitably.

icbc also offers a 5% discount per year of claim free driving—up to a maximum of 40 per cent. You usually have to ask though, maybe even jump through some hoops. i found out through a friend and it was worth it!

Just got back from insurance broker.
I registered my Alberta bus in BC.
When I bought the bus I paid for it, no taxes.

When I registered it I owed taxes on it 420.00. Prefect number lol

Found out I need inspection before I can insure it, I knew that.
After inspection and repairs it has to be insured as a "commercial vehicle (bus)" ouch. Even with seats out. 😣
There is no time limit on the conversion though.
Saga continues

EDIT
After inspection and repairs I've been told I just have to convert the bus and it can be retitled.

Currently my bus is registered as a "commercial passenger carrying bus" it can not change until it is converted to a rv. I can not insure it until it passes inspection. A quote at 5 million liability, 1000.00 deductible. Cost for commercial passenger carrying bus 2400.00 yr...OUCH
