Bonded Title or Wait..?

We are in a bit of a predicament with our title for our 2000 GMC BlueBird.

I thought the real issues would come with converting the title to a motor home, but I was wrong. I went in to change the title to our name and the office realized the title was never actually put into the name of the previous owner even though his name is on the back of the original title. So we have two options:

1) we KEEP waiting for the guy to answer his phone, texts, and emails so that we can return the title to him, so he can title it and send it back to us so we can title it...

2) we apply for a bonded title which I'm hearing can be pretty expensive and more money than we currently have lying around after just converting our bus, and could also take awhile.

Any experience and advice with either of these options would be great!

Best to show up on his front porch if possible. I'd say he's using caller id to screen you. If you've got time you could write to him and explain the issue with his title. My guess is he'd ignore that too.

If I knew where he lived, I would.
We bought it from him because he was moving out of the state and couldn't take it with him.

Do you have a bill of sale?
Maybe you can show a bill of sale and file for a lost title?

We do have the bill of sale. A lost title is the same as a bonded title.

Most DMVs accept a bill of sale as evidence of chain of custody, meaning it should be as good as a regular title. Go to another DMV preferably in a smaller town.

Pretty sure only the owner shown on the title can apply for a duplicate/lost title.

Hopefully the person selling it could legally do so.
Did he say he had inherited the bus?

Here I've had the original title and as many as three bills of sale and it went right through the DMV with no problem. On the other hand, in this state I've got a big van instead of motorhome plates on this bus.
