I have not read through the entire document, but here are the rules for NY State.

https://dmv.ny.gov/forms/mv519.pdf

Looks like you can't really use that bus in NY as a skoolie or motor home for both width and length reasons.

Is it illegal to post a sign in your window, no. the most important thing is to have insurance. If you have that and explain you are just transporting it home. Ga. allows you to drive for 30days on the Bill of Sale. Most other states LEO's don't know that. So as long as you're not driving like an idiot and all your other paperwork is in order, I think you're worrying about nothing.

Until it was pointed out that this is a 60' long articulated transit bus, I was inclined to think the same. Now? I dunno, man.

What is an Me? I can find nothing on it. Series 60 is a DD engine. This is why we require pics.

I added my shuttle to my AAA policy as an RV. The premier plan allows for up to 100 miles towing. I towed mine 65 miles because all 6 brake lines were damaged.

Just drive it

I fumbled with the same issue trying to get temp insurance to move it from Colorado to Texas. In order to get commercial insurance that wasn't 600 a month I had to remove the seats which I wasn't able to do until I got it back to Texas. So I just drove it. I stuck a note in the back window saying in transit not for hire and drove all night. Not the safest plan but the insurance companies don't make it easy. When I moved it again with seats out I was able to get commercial insurance and a temp tag. Insurance was roughly 60 a month. Canceled it once I got it where it was going.

I did the same thing although I did have a temp. tag (60 days) and drove from Pitt. PA to Atl. with my bus. Just obey the traffic laws and don't do anything stupid. Be safe and enjoy the ride.

USPS stepvan

I bought my mail truck in NC, got a temporary registration online from NM, (or AZ, I don’t remember which) for a ~$5. (I believe Va also offers online temp reg).

I drove from NC to CT without any problems. The fine print says that the temp reg is only valid within the state of purchase, but the temp certificate gave me courage to drive home.

I should have said AAA roadside assistance. Not insurance.

I don't think AAA would touch an articulated bus.

I learned a new term today...articulated bus. I agree that AAA probably won't cover one of those types of buses.

When you push the outside of the envelope expect problems. Articulated? Jeez.

I actually just bought a 1997 International 3800 that had undergone a partial conversion. The now former owner had to stop mid conversion due to failing health. I contacted my State Farm Agent in Augusta, GA and had to step him through the possible policies I could get. Most insurance agents have no clue what we're talking about with a Skoolie, at least it doesn't seem so. That being said, despite the bus meeting the states requirement to be titled as an RV, I have a commercial for personal use policy with State Farm. Once I get a picture of the plumbing, stove, and bed I can get State Farm to underwrite it as an RV. All I currently lack is the bed photo which can even ben a blow up mattress!

Ah and I see I didn't read far enough down either. I went with Good Sam's Roadside (their top plan) simply because one never knows with a retired bus when it might need the tow and AAA has a limit to how many tows or calls you can do per year. Good Sam's does not have a limit! I suggest doing a comparison. Even Allstate Roadside isn't as good when it comes to that stat.
