British Columbia ICBC Insurance

Just got back from insurance broker.
I registered my Alberta bus in BC.
When I bought the bus I paid for it, no taxes.

When I registered it I owed taxes on it 420.00. Prefect number lol

Found out I need inspection before I can insure it, I knew that.

After inspection and repairs it has to be insured as a "commercial vehicle (bus)" ouch. Even with seats out. 😣

There is no time limit on the conversion though.
Saga continues

EDIT
After inspection and repairs I've been told I just have to convert the bus and it can be retitled.

I'm (or 90% likely) doing the exact same with my gmc 3500 and moving to the exact same place. I was told here in AB I'd have a year to convert to RV, but would be insured as RV even during that time. Did they give you specifics for the conversion? In AB they said it had to have a bathroom, kitchen, bedroom ,etc but no real specs for what exactly they want to see. Will the same inspection agency inspect your conversion? And how much is the commercial insurance?

Any place to park RVs on the streets up there?

I forgot to add
I I tried to get the "bus" changed from commercial passenger carrying bus to non-commercial or even modified vehicle. No luck
I asked for a quote for 1 year insurance before I get it converted.
3 million liability
1000 deductible

2400.00 a year as a commercial passenger carrying bus at full discount...OUCH

They were willing to give me a list of requirements for RV. Since I'm going all in and it will be awhile before that starts I did not get the list.

As for parking rv's on the street I can not say I don't know. In my mobile home park it's a no go.

I'm still trying to find a place to store and work on my bus. Lots of storage lots but they don't like people working on there vehicles.

I work for a rv dealer so I will have them inspect and install the hard stuff. Getting new RV parts is not a low cost experience, so if I can get used that will be the route.

Did you need a lot of repairs to pass the out of province? Who did you go to get the inspection? Were they hard asses? and who did you end up going with for insurance?

The shop I took the bus to to get the inspection gave me a list of things to do and charged me for that. They told me to replace the tires, check lights, drop propane tank, check brakes and measure, tighten or replace driver's seat. That is most of the list. I have plans to go to a different shop after I get some life issues dealt with.

Did you get it back to B.C. on a permit and then inspection? To insure it? Or how does it work to do that? Looking at a bus in Alberta right now, wondering how to get it here and the details!

Thanks!

Hey guys, question: can you just have a plug in cook top in your Skoolie in Bc to pass inspection or does it need to be installed?

that info is online - but as I remember there is a list of 6 items and a minimum of four have to be permanently installed - you could have a plug in cook top but that wouldn't be counted as one of the 4 items needed
