Changing bus title to rv Washington state
Hey so I bought an 84 passenger 2002 Thomas mvp with a Cummins 5.9 and an Allison md3060. I purchased the bus in Oregon and I live in Washington state, what I’m unclear about is what I do to reclassify it as an rv.
Do I transfer title into my name and then get it reclassified?
Or does the reclassification happen during the process of me putting it into my name?
the dmv I went to and talked to about it said I’m looking at about 600 dollars I feel that can’t be right. (Unless I keep it titled as a commercial vehicle)
I guess what I want to know is what lingo or phrasing should I use with the dmv folks to go about this title change?
Thank you guys for your help I really appreciate it!

Where are you located?
Bev's in Snohomish is very bus/rv friendly.
I have registered two buses as RV'S with them.

I registered by bus in Puyallup. I had no problem getting it titled as a motorhome. No inspection, none of that. Walked in. Told them what I wanted, walked out with plates and registration in hand.

How are you going to insure it? The reason we get it changed to an RV is for more affordable insurance rates. When you show the "RV" to your insurance company they will tell you it isn't an RV and you won't be able to get RV insurance.

The reason I changed mine to RV is so I can drive it in WA without a CDL. The cheaper insurance, once the conversion is done, is a bonus.

I was curious about what my insurance company would say about carrying commercial for personal when the title says RY. So I asked my agent......
She told that it does not matter. They never see the title and can't view it on the DOL site. They can look at my driving record though.
I got to thinking about it and have insured vehicles in 5 states over 40 years and have never been asked for title info by an insurance company.
