Hello all,

I am just starting to shop for a likely bus to do my conversion in. I am located in MA and so I am looking in the warmer, less road rot states.
So far the best options I have seen are located in Florida and Georgia.
My question, if anyone has experience with this, is: how do I take possession of the vehicle in another state, and drive it back to MA with out being able to register it first. I have a CDL-B/bus drivers license so I'm not worried about licensing, just registration.

While I do own a bus from GA, Florida and GA are two of the most expensive places to buy a bus. And the buses here are usually low-end cheap stuff with mediocre drivetrains.

I bid, when I win I call the insurance co and get a policy. Then I go get the bus. A BOS, title, and ins card are about as good as I can get. I was able to get a temp tag in TX for a bus I bought there. Most states refuse to issue them.

As someone who did this... Massachusetts does not recognize out of state temporary plates... The official line is "buy it, have the seller mail you a bill of sale (for taxes) the title and then get your insurance company to do an rmv1 and then register it... Then drive it home.
I picked up my bus with a temp plate and drove it home. I got the insurance on it the day I picked it up (and the rmv1) and just drove it...

Ga. gives you 30 days to register, BOS suffices in the meantime. The most important thing is to have valid insurance on it and a BOS and title if you got one and you won't have any issues with LEO. Many insurance companies automatically cover any new/used purchase you make for a short period, check with yours to see.

Personally, whenever buying any motor vehicle, I recommend always having a friend drive behind you and follow you home... just in case.

I was in Atl GA when I was ready to start the actual purchase of a bus. They were all JUNK. Surprised me, as this is a great place to buy a car...plenty of corporate business money keeps newer cars in the used car lots, and no salt on the roads keeps the cars' bodies good, and fairly good roads throughout GA keep the suspensions from junking out. Got mine in Tucson; and it was the one I wanted, not just the one that was nearby...

For now I am back in Atl. If you see something, I am willing to check it out for you (no charge). I have been an auto technician/mechanic for 20+ years. No, I'm not following you back up to the N.E. in your new bus. I don't like it up there, and they don't like me and my anti-fascist stance. Hell, in VA they pull me over for a bumper sticker supporting a favorite band! It is the actual state law! Maryland wanted to call me a criminal felon for a joint or two. Then again Atl is turning into a police state, also. The more they tighten their grip, the more star systems will slip through their fingers, but it brings out the worst of thugs in the meantime, and gives them the power........ As soon as I get my interior converted to living space, fix a tranny line leak, and fix a motor oil leak coming from the back of my air compressor, I'm outta here! Cops in Oregon that I met were actually nice, and I think I only saw one in 2 months in Eugene, yet it is full of homeless travelers, street folks, and other "trouble-making riff-raff" that gets stomped out or pushed into corners or under the rug in the east.... But I digress....

GA assigns tags to people, not vehicles, so you will have no tag at first. Don't know if they do temp tags or "travel permit" tags. CA does 2-3 day travel permits. AZ gave me a 3-month temp tag for $15.

As a FL boy I've learned to stay clear of the GA cops!!!
