Yep, it's going to depend on the state in which the bus is licensed. Some prohibit school bus yellow, some require removal (not just disabling) school bus lights, stop signs, etc., and some do not. ALL however, are required to recognize that if it's lawful in the licensed state, it's lawful throughout the US.

I just bought a bus that I want to register in Vermont. The person I bought the bus from, never registered it, but she did sign the old title as a buyer. I do have a bill of sale from her. The bus hasn’t even registered since 2018. Will a bill of sale work on its own ??

You need to show the entire chain of ownership.
So, the title signed to her
AND
The bill of sale from her to you listing the VIN and other information wanted on the VT Bill of Sale form.

Also, on older rigs there is no need to do the odometer.
You can find step by step instructions on our YouTube channel and our Dot Com.... Both are "HamSkoolie"

No, there is a list of what you need to include in the first post, just do not put yellow in the color haha, I did that and had it sent back so now I'm going the legit NC route which is actually cheaper anyway

I lost my bill of sale recently, but I do have the signed title. Will I be able to register it? Should I recreate a bill of sale? The seller was moving two states away so I’m not sure if they’re still around or not.

Does the signed title show transfer from the owner listed on the title directly to you (or not signed at all but there is a place for who the title was signed over to)?
If so, you have a complete trail of ownership.
If not, you will need to find or get a new bill of sale (or bills of sale). There must be a chain of ownership in full.

As an example:
If xyz bus co is on the title and First Student bought the xyz company, then first student sold the bus to the guy you bought it from and simply signed off the title as First Student, then you bought it from that guy using a bill of sale. DON'T LAUGH THIS WAS OUR SITUATION
Then you would need:
Title showing xyz as owner and signed over by First Student to guy

you bought it from

Documentation that First Student bought xyz company
(court documents, contract, etc.)

Bill of sale from the guy you bought it from

As for "re creating" a Bill of Sale.... you're a adult, you know the deal

Thanks. I ended up finding the bill of sale on the floor today in the car. So I’m feeling better now.

But yes, the owner on the title signed it over to me on the title and I signed it.

One more question…if my vehicle is 16yrs old does a COPY of the title mean I can make a color photocopy and send it in to them or do they need the original title still?

They only need a photocopy of the original.

This is a general FYI for anyone renewing their registration on the Vermont DMV website. You can't renew until the beginning of the month the registration would expire. In other words, my registration expires on the last day of June so I can't renew online until the first of June.

If this has been mentioned before then consider this a re-idiotation.

Does Vermont still allow temporary registration for out of state vehicles? I’m trying to do one and I only see the option for Vermont license holders.

The answer to this is no. But when you receive your plates they’ll include a temporary registration to put on there until your stickers for registration come in the mail.

There are a lot of folks that tow with heavy duty trucks. They're all over YouTube. You want to make contact with them. The link above is on couple I've been following.

In Colorado you need to show proof on insurance to register any motor vehicle.

After some time I finally heard back from Vermont about my registration. I have a registration from them thats says MH as body type but it says passenger car/school bus at the bottom. The person vermont said that this is how they do this. Is this true? Do any of your registrations say passenger car/ school bus or does it actually say motor home?

Ours has MH as the body type and says "Passenger car or school bus" in two lines on the bottom right.
