You still have those states that enforce their local registration requirements.

Personally just legally moving your domicile to VT for a time would be easier and cheaper for most.

Now that I think about it you could really do any state with less-strict rules. Vermont was the go-to because of permitting out-of-state residents.

Yes.

But the issuing the MH title/reg before inspection

in effect no inspection required, reg remaining valid so long as the vehicle does not remain in state

Is that not also "special" if not unique?

WV now doing out-of-state titling.

Steve Lehto lays it out.

They've shut down new registrations but I just renewed mine (out of state) online and it went through. They're not issuing stickers anymore though.

What did you do exactly, which state did you register online from and to? Could help many needing to do this.

I'm sorry - I was replying to and quoted a comment about registering in Vermont, so I thought it was too obvious to need a mention.

Vermont. I registered my rig in Vermont last year and renewed it by clicking through the relevant links on the Vermont DMV site a few weeks ago.

It took about 5 or 6 weeks for me to get a notice in the mail that my Vermont registration had been renewed and that they are no longer issuing stickers.

I've also not had any problems renewing Vermont registration on the three vehicles I keep with VT reg. All three renewed late 2023 without issue.

I even got a Vermont vanity plate for a 4th vehicle, done after the 'ban'. That old truck has been since transferred to my local state now, however.

It will be interesting to see what the future holds going forward. I might try to go through the process of registering another vehicle with them to see what happens!

I just tried registering another vehicle with them and it did not go through. However just received the notice to renew my current bus with them. So once in the system works just fine, but adding another so far has not worked. They say you have to have a connection with Vermont, I can not find what defines connection.

Thanks for responding. I didn't know if you had done it after they closed the loophole online somehow. Seems it was just renewing fine, which I would expect if already registered there. I'll just register in SC when mine is done.

I'd like to know who has successfully completed (or even unsuccessfully tried) transferring a Vermont reg to fully titled ownership, and in what state.

I've personally done it in New Mexico- 2023 was the last time. They put a stop on it until they checked the VIN, but then completed the titling once cleared without issue.
