Progressive is famous in these parts for selling you a policy and cancelling it a couple weeks later. I'm holding my breath, waiting for that other shoe to drop. I hope that you turn out to be the exception and not the rule.

They could have canceled a day later and I wouldn't have cared. I was legal for the drive home.

Now I need to visit the Tag Office. I am wondering about simply getting the title changed at the same time as paying the sales tax and tag fee, In OK they don't inspect, they simply require an Affidavit detailing the changes made "on or about a date".

It's an out-of-state vehicle, so they might want to see the VIN#

I just called the Tag Office. They need to see the vehicle.

You then have to call the number they give you. Took 10 minutes to confirm all the details and I was able to download an insurance card the next day.

When I talked to the guy on the phone he asked for details of my use. I told him I needed to drive the vehicle from the auction site home, then it was going to be off the road while I removed the seats and made improvements.

They never batted an eyelid.
This is EXACTLY what happened to me.

I let the first 6 months run out before remembering the storage trick. Other than that, mine policy hasn't changed either. But then I'm not sending them any pics or details on my build!!

I have a few questions after reading this entire thread......

1. Does this still work to be able to change from BUS to MH?
2. Are you required to send pics of the conversion?
3. Will this still work if all you have is a bill of sale from the seller?

1. Yes.
2. No.
3. Yes. Might need a VIN verification performed by your local sheriff.

1 yes they will register it from bus to motorhome. Just make sure you specify you want it registered as MH I believe it is a19 in the check box
2 No you do not need to send any photos what so ever
3 As long as your bus 15yrs or older you don't need the title.

Keep in mind you can't drive it at all without insurance. While you may be able to register it as something it's not, you will have a hard time getting it insured for something it's not. Few companies will insure it as a "School bus", with or without seats. To insure it as an RV or MH, the insurance company wants details on whats been done and it has to have many RV/MH features in order for them to accept it.
As far as getting it home from the sale, all you need is insurance here in Ga. You can drive it for one week on a Bill Of Sale without registration.

If all he has is a bill of sale and no ownership papers, aka a title or transferable registration, he'll most likely need a VIN verification.

What if there is no current registration or a suspended registration on said vehicle? Will Vermont still issue tags, etc?

Also, does Vermont not require a vehicle inspection?

Not that I'm aware of. I belong to a number of motorcycle forums and when ever there is a title issue, or no title to the bike , you can register it in Vermont by just filling out the forms on line I believe. See here:
Recreational vehicles (RVs) and motorhomes must be registered just like a regular car in Vermont. Follow the instructions on our guide to Registering a Car in Vermont.
The fees you'll need to pay will vary depending on the length of your registration and whether your RV runs on gas or diesel. The fees for motorhome registration are the same as for a regular car.

Yes, Vermont will register it. Yes, Vermont does require a vehicle inspection but the common logic is you won't be ticketed out of state without VT inspection. Only VT will ticket you for no inspection... so stay out of Vermont or get it inspected.

This is amazing, thank you. Seems there's been an update to the form, and I just want to be sure I do it right even if these are dumb questions, and my apologies if they've been answered previously.

This section at the top, is that filled by you or by the VT DMV? What is the "Old, New, New" section and is it self-filled? If self-filled, how do you know/what does it mean by expiration? What is Index #?

Also I've yet to purchase the thing but I don't see a listing for its GVWR or unloaded weight, how do I go about finding that? GVWR will be listed on bus plate I imagine, but unloaded weight I'm unsure of how to acquire.

Maybe I'm jumping the gun but I wanna be able to submit this the moment I am legally able.

The issue I see happening is that you have to insure the bus before you can register it. Most companies won't insure it as an RV as a school bus until the modifications have been done. How does DMV handle registering a bus as an RV when it has bus insurance?

I don't think you need insurance to register it. Where are you getting this info? Is it perhaps different in your state?
