Hi all. I'm looking to buy a bus soon. It's located about 5 hours from me. I'm hoping to drive it home (legally).
Has anyone used the Vermont online "Temporary Registration" to get temp registration and plates? It requires still submitting all the normal paperwork and fees within 24hrs. https://dmv.vermont.gov/mydmv/temporary-registration
The only issue i wonder about is that on the online form they only have Car, Truck, Boat, and ATV as possible vehicle types, with no option for Other ie: Motorhome 19. I would still fill in the paper form as a conversion to motorhome so as to have the vehicle classification changed.
Thanks.

Hi all.
I'm looking to buy a shuttle bus in the near future hopefully. I'm looking at one thats located in Upstate NY, about 5 hours from where I live in NY. I want to drive my bus home (legally).
When I was looking at the Vermont DMV site it looks like then now do online temporary registrations. https://dmv.vermont.gov/mydmv/temporary-registration It requires you to complete the normal VD-119 and pay the usual fees within 24 hours. Has anyone used this yet?
My only concern is that in the section for type of vehicle they don't have a section for "Other ie; Motorhome #19" just Car, Truck, Boat or ATV. I would still do the classification as Motorhome on the VD-119 in order to have it formally classified as a MH for insurance and such.
Thoughts?
Thanks!

I would think only if you were a VT resident, or maybe if you could drop in physically.
They don't move faster than 2-4 weeks for out of state applicants.
Main thing is to have a Bill of Sale and proof of insurance, even going cross country

Sorry if I wasn't clear. It seems that we may now be able to get temp platesvand registration and then follow up with tje paperwork. Seems a decent stopgap for the drive home, so long as you have insurance.

Time frame to process..
They stamped it received Nov 9th and they mailed me back the letter dated Nov 20th. So only 11 days to get to it.
Maybe that will help..

I hope our promoting this loophole so publicly
does not result (has not resulted) in it getting harder, or worst case eliminated!

I'm going to call them Monday and find out if they are OK with the pics during the conversion or if it needs to be done when I'm finished. I'll keep you posted.

Oh man they mailed them sideways! You're going to have to tip your bus over to mount them.

My understand on the Vermont thing is they DID clamp down and required you come to the office in person to register, but because of Covid, they went back to allowing mail-in registration. So when covid restrictions are lifted, it may not work.
