Just sent off my paperwork today. 1-12-2021 Filled out just like the example from OP. I would be a liar to say I wasn't nervous... lets see what happens!

I am wondering if this would be worth it for me. I currently have my 1999 Ford E350 titled in Texas as commercial van. Insurance is about $55 per month. I am still converting so haven't gotten it inspected or registered yet (only titled).

It seems somewhat painful to convert to RV in Texas. Would this be worth it for me? Is RV insurance that much cheaper than what I currently pay ?

Just wondering if I should

A) Keep as commercial van

B) Try to title as RV in TX

C) Use this Vermont method (and possibly never have to get it inspected in TX)

Thumbs up Got my Plates!

So I just got my plates in! Now I'm just waiting for the Transferable Registration....

I did want to state that as of a 2 weeks ago, you can't call and ask about anything without making an appointment. You can leave a message (if you can find the right place on their phone tree to leave a message) or you can email them to ask about the status.

When I first called (and you could talk to someone) I was told that they were 4-6 weeks behind (I was at the 4 week mark) and to wait 2 more weeks. By then you couldn't talk to anyone so I emailed them via their online form. It took 4 days to get a response that they had already processed my registration. Then it took about another 10 days for the plates to come in.

Basically, so far I'm saying it works, you just got to be very patient.....

Well it's the insurance you have going to cover the value of everything you are putting in to it? Once registered as a MOTORHOME in VT you simply go to tx omv and register it there, fees will beb less cause you paid tax in VT and they have to give you a Texas registration saying MOTORHOME because you have a title saying it is one. Then you get tx tags and rv ins to cover the property value and while on the road.

Unfortunately my VT temporary registration tags lapse in a week. When I call they still can't find me in their system. USPS has been pretty backlogged, but I'm only a few states away.

Hopefully everything goes off without a hitch, but I am getting a bit nervous.

USPS is pretty backed up that's why I paid the $26 priority express w insurance and tracking it has my original title and was not playing around I would drive to vt and do it myself if I could.

Hopefully they have yours in the pile that the above gentlemen mentioned they are working through

Keep us posted!

ok so to recap i on my plates
1-8-21 VD-119 arrives in office.
1-19-21 they said they were working on mail from 12-25-20
1-30-21 get my original title back in the mail (older than 15 years)
2-1-21 9:30 am called and said my plates were still being processed with a transferable registration and a refund check for $35 (title fee)
2-1-21 8pm i check the mail and my Green plates have arrived.

just waiting on the tags now.

they crossed out the section about number of axles and weight so dont bother with that folks.

Did you have to present your bus to the DMV to show that you painted it and removed the insignia while you were there, or did you only have to sign an affidavit for it on the spot?
Thanks for answering!

you simply mail the application with a check or money order. No in person transaction at all. No affidavit, just write ur bus color on the app...or soon to be color.

Yes, the whole point if the process is no restrictions

but this only works for those never going to VT, locals need to get inspected.

i just got off the phone with lisa riff of florida allstate insurance. Her mother is kelly newsome who does all the skoolie insurance.

You will not beable to get vt insurance unless you live there. You have to get it in your home state. Kelly has hand picked an agent in each state to handle all types of skoolie insurance. Their number is 352-326-9300 and tell them (BEN) 2 much pressure sent ya

the vermont end around is simply a easy way to get the motorhome tag without actually finishing your conversion, nothing more.

Now if you pay for the 2 year tag as i did, at the end of that tag you will need to transfer the registration to your home state (per ms.riff) so that maybe why you havent herd back about a renewal.
