this vermont thing sounds wierd.. so are you guys saying that I can go buy a vehicle, not receive a title.. just a bill of sale, write whatever the heck VIN I want on the bill of sale (presumably the vehicle I bought).. and vermont mails me a title, tags and registration?

A nice lady came out and let us know that we could come on in. They opened a half hour early just for us!
Gotta love living in a small town. The fools in Orlando have it ROUGH when it comes to the dmv.

MY DMV trick in Southern California was always to wait until 4pm to get in line. They close at 5 but they HAVE to see everyone who was in line before that, and they are so anxious to punch out that they speed right up in the late afternoon.

From my experience with VT, they required a title and bill of sale with matching VINs. Now, it was asked for on the forms, but I don't know if they even read them other than to input them into the computer.

The computer systems also do VIN validation, so if it's incorrect, there might be an issue.

For vehicles older than 15 years, VT does not issue titles, only registration.

The VT deal is used a lot on motorcycles because they WILL issue a title without having one to show them. That's the whole point of going the VT route. get a title on your bike so you can transfer said title to your own state.

im just trying to figure out how they prevent fraud... its pretty easy to change the VIN plate on a vehicle, then fab up a Bill of sale.. and if they issue a title, then you suddenly own this vehicle with this VIN, that couldve been boosted,,, take it to another state, sell it...

wierd..

I know why they do it. The revenue from out of staters must be amazing.
They don't care if you have issues housing an out of state vehicle at your house, that's your problem while they are spending your money.
It concerns me when I read some of the current posts about insuring as an RV without a conversion. Telling them it's white for the title when it hasn't been paint. These al sound like minor issues till you're in a $100k accident and your insurance company says "this isn't what we insured, claim denied"

Why would Vermont care about problems other states suffer as a result of their leniency?

And people regularly engaging in crime are rarely planning much ahead, going to extra effort, or in fact very clever, as a rule. . .

Let's just be grateful and leave it at that

Everyday on the news here there are a couple reported "sliders" in Atl. Thieves just waiting for you to go into the convenience store to pay for your gas and leave the keys in and some punks jumps in and is gone. They are getting so bold as to get in while you're pumping from the unlocked passenger side. it's rampant here in Atl. I'm glad I'm 50 miles from that rat race.

its everywhere.. and its why my fob is in my pocket and the car auto locks itself when I get gas... I usually lock the bus when im going into the gas station too...

Boosting new cars is a more dangerous proposition for those guys as many of them are GPS tracked and can even be shut-down remotely...
