How to insure bus without conversion for <$1,200/year?
Home base is Arizona and I just purchased a 1996 International from an auction in Colorado. I need to fly out there and drive it home. When I called Progressive, AIS, and Good Sam about insurance for a conversion, they requested multiple pictures of the completed conversion which I obviously don't have and can't do while I'm in a different state. I spoke to Progressive Commercial about a "commercial vehicle for private use", hoping to get the ~$400/yr rates that others here on this forum have received. They said that because the vehicle is over 26k lbs, Arizona requires me to carry $750k in liability which puts me at $1400/year. I need liability insurance for 48 hours to drive it back to AZ from CO, at which point I can leisurely complete the conversion for re-titling and insurance. I'm really in a bind as I'm supposed to pick it up on Friday. Does anyone have suggestions? Thank you.

This guy insured my bus, and it still has the seats in it. You will need pictures inside and out so if you already have them, great... if not, get them. My pictures showed all the seats still in it and he still got me a liability policy, 81 down and 65 a month on a 2005 bus.

Wow that's really good.... about half what I'm paying but I also have a lot newer bus than you do, so that's probably a big chunk of it. Also AZ vs TN.

Just a question, but is your bus still titled as a bus, or a rv?

Try these folks: a cheap commercial liability insurance policy, plenty good for while you're doing your conversion (and likely afterwards).

I haven't actually gotten the title and tag back yet but if all goes weil it will be titled and registered as an RV in the next few days, just waiting on VT to process the paperwork.

Just wanted to add my insurance experience and address the $750k liability piece. I just went through the commercial arm of Prog. and bought the personal use policy. My bus is over 26k weight, so I had to get the "combined $750k liability policy". However, my rate is still $450 for the year. So for people at this stage and having trouble with the cost, try another agent, perhaps?
