Insurance

I dont get it, why is insuring a bus such a hassle? State farm will insure a bus, but only if all of your policies are with state farm..i even found a place that insures dragsters and airplanes...but they wont insure a bus....ill even pay 6 months up front..lol

Has anyone tried a company that insures buses or motorcoaches?

Ive tried numerous local agents with no luck. Everything about this whole bus has been a struggle.. Most of the agents had never heard of such a thing.

Insurers don't like the unknown. The actuaries cannot point at a data set and say, "this type of vehicle equals 'X' amount of risk."

So they simply just say no.

Yes farm bureau is here..ive read they are a big NOPE. I have a company that says they are still looking..they have been looking for 2 days. Here is the kicker, i go and pick up my bus tomorrow with or without insurance..about a 100 mile drive. Thinking if i get pulled over pull out car insurance papers and tell the cop im covered for 24 hrs under my policy..it transfers to any vehicle i drive..or so i was told.

I recently got insured by them for $98 per year. But it’s different in every state.

Do you have a policy with them pre-bus?

Can you register without having insurance first? You can title it an RV, purchase insurance and then register.

Make sure your current auto policy doesn't cover new purchases. It's not uncommon for them to work with you. (in our case 7 days) I prefer not to mention the word bus, cause it opens up too many rabbit holes for them to squirm into. Get it to the place where the work will take place and I think you're golden.

I have similar coverage on purchases as well.

Before leaving to pick up a bus I emailed the vin to my agent and confirmed coverage.

I printed out the reply from my agent to show in case I got pulled over.
