Insurance before converting.

Great job Lapeer....makes me wish I had a diesel so I could convert it to run on Veggie oil...way cool.

I have a question for you (anyone else who might have an idea please chime in ).....

Did you register your bus as a motor home or something else?

I've decided enoughs , enough on our Bus . I'm going to take her down to Oregon to finish her up in better weather.
So, I cant register Latcho Drom as a motor home yet.

Any suggestions on how I should register her so we can move ?
I want to do this as cost effectively as possible.
Trip Permits wont work .
I'm pretty sure GMAC will insure us as a partial conversion...at least I hope so.

P.S. After we finish up Latcho Drom , we'll live in her while I build our next Rolling Home ...a 35 foot triple-axle 5th wheel trailer.
I'm taking a welding course this fall at the local college here which will help in my new project.

My bus is not yet converted, but since I needed to drive it I had to register it. Here in Alaska, even though it's a private vehicle, it falls under the Commercial vechile rates because of it's weight. That means it's on the order of $250+ for 2 years, at least it was for my bus.

GMAC was not too difficult to get insurance through, I told them it was a retired school bus that was being converted. The only thing they told me was unless it was a "professional" conversion, they could only provide liability insurance. That was fine with me since everything is paid for anyway.

PS - I agree, good job the the "Black Plague". If I had the time, I would also consinder converting my bus to veggie.... Just don't have the time, yet.

GMAC was only $179 for liability (state minimums) for 6 months.

I got my ins through gmac also. It was not, and still is not titled or insured as a motor home. Just a non-commercial bus.

Hi Every one . Information for every one here in Washington State. It is no longer neccessay to have your bus inspected by the Washington State Patrol. When you go to the Department of Licensing(DOL) tell them you want your bus registered as a Motor Home. If you live in Washington State and do not have your bus registered as a Motor Home and want it to be registeered as a Motor Home Just take your title in and have it transferred. This means that you do not have to have the conversion completed or even started to be a Motor Home. This means cheaper insurance in most cases.
