Insuring my school bus in California. Please help :(

I am having the worst experience here. I have a short bus that was converted by the previous owner. They titled and registered it as a van camper (that’s also what my title and registration say) and had minimum coverage with AAA. I have called 10 companies, including brokers. I have even acquired about assigned risk insurance, nothing. No one will insure it. How the previous owner had it insured, I do not know or understand. AAA didn’t either. When I reached out to the previous owner they were of no help.

It has a stove and oven, sink, camp toilet, and bed. I’ve sent pictures to company after company and they deny me expressly because it is a bus, not for any other reason. I planned to live in it but I’ve not been telling any company that because it’s obviously disqualifies me immediately in almost every case. Yet I’m still not getting anywhere so not like it matters.

Based on the information the previous owner gave me, I thought this was a one and done deal where I just make a call and I’m good to go. I asked a lot of questions about this before buying as I was initially looking for a van and so hadn’t researched the requirements for busses.

So basically I’m bouncing around Airbnb’s right now desperate to just get out on the road. If I don’t find something in the next week, I’ll have to get back on a lease and live in a town I’ve been trying so hard to leave for such a long time. This was my chance. I’m so sad and discouraged. Please someone tell me there is hope here?

Also I tried AIS and National General so those are out. I’ve also called Geico, AAA, two brokers, Nationwide, Progressive, and went to a local State Farm agent.

Register it by mail in Vermont as an RV. Then procure RV insurance.
