You should be able to tile as a van or a "Class C" RV . My Class C is on a GMC Vandura 35 chassis. I also think that my 1977 Chassis is more than a 3/4 ton. I have the van part of the owners manual around here somewhere. I think my RV is 2 ton.

ohh.. maybe register it as a cube van. remove the seats though. and claim seating for 1-3 people then.

Re: :) Is a GMC Vandura Shortbus Insurable as a Van?

I have almost the same thing, 95 GMC Vandura 3500 with the 6.5L. I think Chev used G30 and GMC used 3500 for there 1 ton chassis designations.

In Wisconsin being 10,000lbs and under, if you leave over 50% of the seating in it is considered a passenger car similar to a suburban or passenger van. Your state may be similar.
If I had removed all the seats it would have been considered a 1 ton truck which in WI doubles the yearly tabs. Now that I have mine titled I am switching out the remaining seats and replacing with smaller coach seats on tracks. Then I can slide them out of the way for hauling. As long as I have 8 seat belts somewhere I should be fine.

When it came to both insurance and the DMV, I explained that I currently drive a suburban and would be using it just as I would that. For personal use only. Trips to Home Depot for supplies and transporting family and such. No commercial use needed to pointed out a few times.

I only put Liability insurance on it so that probably made it easier. I sold an old beater car to buy this so I didn't notice a change in cost.

Good luck with your purchase.

That's what I was thinking when I first picked the bus up. But my GMC has "Vandura 3500" badge on the fenders.

As I see vans around it seems the Chevrolet branded vans of this era have G series numbering and GMC vans have the 3500 etc numbering(?). Not sure why Chev/Gmc use different number scheme? Probably so people can tell the difference between them?

I'm not sure if I did it right, but when I punched in the VIN# on the Geico website it came up as a g30 cube van.
Yep, the VIN is for the van chassis. I told my agent about it being a short bus but they went off the VIN # and insured it as a van. They were more concerned about it not being used commercially or to haul people.

but taking the seats out today made me want to pass out about . . . now zzzzzzZZZZZzzz
Luckily we only had 8 seats to take out

My seat removal progression
First seat: carefully remove bolts with socket and wrench. set seat in yard hoping to find a use for it.
by the time I got to the Last seat: Grinder w/cutoff wheel and sawzall, throw chunks and pieces of what used to be a seat out the back door.

Currently working on updated pic's.

Re: :) Is a GMC Vandura Shortbus Insurable as a Van?

I've got a very similar bus that I've reached the point where I'm getting ready to start converting the interior. Already have all the seats removed and I painted it also. I'm at the point where I need to register and insure it now. I'll be watching this post to pick up pointers on the insurance and modifications to the interior. Mine's a 97 GMC 6.1 diesel in terrific shape that I bought off Ebay for $3,000. Absolutely nothing wrong with it.

i live in florida you can title that as a rv as long as you have 1 110 outlet they don't check you just sign a paper. the title transfer has jumped up to 75.00 just for the title it was 29.50 just a couple years ago. they stick it to you.
