Lien Satisfaction Certificate?

I went to the local tag office and was having a hard time with the lady as usual. I almost had a tag when she says "you need a lien satisfaction certificate".
The school I bought the bus from isnt answering the phone and its 800 miles away.
Any advice or suggestions?

I have to get a bank to send a notarized letter to the state of ky who has to then send one to me, and apparently the deadline has been missed.
Is this going to be the thing that ruins my owning the bus?
Seems to be a TON of BS involved that is impossible to plan for and there seems to be no end to it!
Frustration is setting in.
And my insurance is due.

I'm confused on this "lien satisfaction certificate". Do you not have the TITLE for this bus? Anything I ever owned or bought that had a lien on it, the title was held by the lien holder until paid off, then where the lien holder was listed was stamped to show that the lien had been satified.

What is the deal with your bus that prompted the witch at the DMV to want a lien certificate?

Yes I have the title.
It says there was a lien in 1992, but the school told me there isn't a lien anymore.
I've never had a lien on anything... Took me by surprise.

You could ask whether they have an "insufficient evidence of ownership" process that be used. Utah does; I've used it in the past when I've bought a car for parts and didn't receive a title with it. A police officer, mechanic, etc inspects the VIN tag on the vehicle, signs a document, and I submit that with my request to the motor vehicle division. They attempt to contact the last registered owner by mail to verify the claim; if there's no response in 30 days then they send me the new title with my name on it. I suppose there would be a similar process for serving notice to the last-known lien holder to test whether they respond, and if they don't, then the state would dismiss the lien.

Looking at this title, and I *could* have simply fudged one little signature and date on it and all would be well.
Porblem is- the HORRIBLE lady at the tag office has flagged my file/vin and REQUIRES a notorized certification now.
I swear she gets off on the power, rejecting people's attempts to navigate the horrible bureaucracy she is living off of.

Well I think I have this solved.
The VERY sweet and helpful folks at the Todd Co school board have agreed to take care of this for me. I'm sending them the title via priority mail insured, and they will sign the lien release box ( I think it was simply overlooked before) and then send it back.
I can wait a week or two!
gonna be getting more work done now that I have a bit of money to put into it again.

We were told that we needed a bill of sale along with the title. I'm not saying "we" fudged a BOS, but we do have tags.

If everything goes as it should, I will have title in my name and tag friday.
I may even go with a fancy custom personalized plate. "1992WARD" comes to mind!

Don't go back to that tag office.

We have a dude here that does what ever he can to prevent you from getting your stuff tagged. He even did the same crap when I was trying to re apply for my health care.

Now I go to one that has nice friendly, cheerful lady's.
Not some 49 year old virgin dude with a power trip.

I'm glad the school is willing to do all the paperwork. I'd get that EF U DMV plate just for the hell of it. I'm not exactly happy with the DMV either right now.

You might want to give them a call and see if they got it and how things are going.

Hey....how are things going on getting your certificate? It's been over a week since I heard from you. Is it time to email or call them again?

No- they emailed me back last week and explained that they were waiting on the Clerk of County Courts to sign it and send it back.
They emailed me yesterday and my title and papers should be here today!

I was very stressed out but its all good now. Going to go tag and title it either today or tomorrow.
