I'm starting to think the RV route may be getting harder to do.

I like my commercial policy because they don't care what I do as long as I send them 60 bucks 10 times a year.

We're kind of in a quandry - we haven't owned a car for almost a year so we don't have anything to attach it to. Because we're moving to the PNW next month (fingers crossed!) - I called a lady that had helped out Chrissy here on the boards. She's going to do some digging and get back to me tomorrow.

I get that because of the amateurs doing poor work and unsafe builds they need to be cautious - but this is ridiculous.

National General did tell us that they insure non-professional school bus conversions in EVERY state EXCEPT North Carolina. Good Sam says they "no longer have a product for converted buses."

Although I found a local National General agency in my tiny 500 population town and the guy was able to convince them to insure us. We went with Farm Bureau, though, because it was cheaper by ten bucks.

Nationwide sold me a policy, but 10 days later they sent notification they are cancelling. What a pain.
Is it just my imagination or are people with Internationals able to get insurance easier than a Bluebird? Apparently Bluebird simply means bus even though it says van on my title. The DMV says a bus without seats is a van, but that hasn't helped my case in the slightest.
I'm wanting to go with the Hartford because it's nearly half the price of anywhere else. Otherwise FB or something you've mentioned on this thread.

I think staying titled as a bus is better for finding insurance.
I think the more folks try to insure home made RV's the more the ins co's are going to start rejecting and cancelling policies.

I think you're right. Or at least require professional conversion. When I see some, with the towers on top for example, I can see why they wouldn't.

The problem with a bus title is then you're back to needing a CDL.

Not in a lot of states, like FL.

Foremost demands a professional conversion to insure as an RV. Which puts bookmobiles/mobile command posts ahead of most of us.

I know insurance companies insure off VIN classification in NJ, not what the title says. So you could probably flip the title to RV, but insure it as a non-commercial bus. I saw some chatter on another forum (FB's BCI page, IIRC) about seeing if an engineer would inspect and sign off on a VIN reclassification to RV
