Long Island NY DMV
well Thursday, I registered my bus..after a total of 5 1/2 hours at DMV.. they registered it as a Home on Wheels ... how or why i have no idea but thats what they did with no proof of conversion or anything else...
I am not sure how they did this,God is looking out for me... but so you know... NY requires the insurance card to have a barcode so it can be scanned, and if your drivers license has any initial for the middle name it must appear on the insurance card as exactly the same...
the barcode they scan must also include your client or drivers ID number embedded in the barcode...
notice that its H/Wh ... Home on wheels.. also note the color is yellow.. and its also passenger plates... on my way to having my skoolie

I registered my shortie in Westchester last year - same deal, took probably 4 hours and finally walked away as "house on wheels." I didn't care so long as I could drive on the Taconic!

LOL Ny takes forever to do nothing but send you away with a get back in line fast card that does nothing but have you wait some more... and then you get to wait a little more... and guess what.. again even longer... but when its close for DMV staff to go home... EVERYONE MOVES FASTER!!...smh..

Yeah yeah... lol im jealous... not really cuz now i can save even more money on my skoolie insurance and use it to build... that time i spent in DMV was also on no sleep since the day before... i was so shot but didnt have the energy to get angry about it... not that it would have helped... just typical time frame for LI DMV...

I had my bus weighed at some cat scales and took that in to show them the weight. They accepted it where I went in NV.

Thanks hoping I can pass without a weight inspection. Don't want to have to pay a fortune to tow it back and forth just to get a weight. No other way to do that without plates

So, any luck on finding a weight listed on the title?? it made it easier to fill in the blanks is all... i found out after i was already going to DMV Massapequa that they can set up appointments now and the wait time is significantly less, like 5 minutes or so..however i ran into obstacle of the insurance card didnt have the correct info on it or embedded correctly so they sent me away to get that fixed which can take up to 3 hours itself but only took about an hour and 20 or so... Just make sure that all your info is correct and make sure that the INS carrier embeds the right info on the scan code that NY requires... Good luck on the next attempt

Is there no way to get a temporary movement permit? Oregon and NV both have them. You don't have to take the bus in, just the paperwork.

I'll have to look into this... as a home on wheels can you drive it under a normal NY license?

What does it say on the back of your license what you can drive?
Mine says all vehicles 26000lbs or less, 2 or 3 wheel motorcycles and ALL Recreational Vehicles. I specifically asked "Regardless of weight?" and the answer was "Yes".
